I interviewed whoever was under $400 and available for my date. It was actually pretty easy to find someone! Deciding to spend another $800 was NOT an easy decision. But I'm really glad we used Keela. She was super laid back, without being too (pardon the expression) hippy-dippy. </p> <p>I was also worried the hospital would look at me funny when I told them I was using a doula, but I think they are used to it in the Boston area. They are on the North Shore, but I'm pretty sure they take clients in Boston. It was $800 which is steep, but Keela is also a certified massage therapist and that was huge when I was in labor. I've gotten several excellent recommendations, but they're for experienced doulas that charge at least a grand. I'm totally willing to help someone who is just starting out and would charge less by hiring them for our delivery... I'm not planning on a completely natural childbirth, just looking for someone who can help me get as far along as I can. </p>
