I don't think there's a downside as far as supply issues. I hated using them, though, because they never stuck on very well and I hated washing them. I literally had 6 of them. I'm lazy I guess!

I used them for the entire 13 months we nursed. It was never a problem for us. I tried to wean from them a few times but it would always make LO so mad. The only downside was making sure I always had one with me and cleaning them (get at least 3-4!).

I used it with LO on one side for about two months and then one day, POOF, he was done using it. A friend used it for her entire time breastfeeding, about 6 months.

I used one until 5 months and had a great supply and no issues at all! The only downside was always knowing where it was and keeping it clean

We used a nipple shield for four months. I had a great supply and was able to wean dd off of the shield once she was "old enough" to figure out how to nurse without it. We nursed sans shield until 19 months!

I've def heard from people that use it throughout their entire nursing relationship!

DD is 3 mo and we still use it, although now she gets fussy with it sometimes and prefers to latch naturally, but she also doesn't get it right 100% so we more or less still use it. I plan on keeping it for as long as we need to, I also do try to encourage her to latch naturally here & there.

I've read that some babies one day suddenly just decide they don't need it anymore! I keep hoping she would and start latching like a champ haha!

Does anyone have experience with this? I had a meeting with an LC this morning about weaning from the shield and she said there is really no reason I couldn't, but baby girl is so sleepy I am having a very hard time getting her to latch without it.

I am perfectly content to continue using it, but is there a reason I shouldn't? My supply isn't an issue, and she is gaining just like she should.

Thanks!
