Thanks all! We did end up taking him to the pediatrician again this evening and it turns out whatever viral infection he had before has now also led to an ear infection AND eye infections (pink eye)!! For some reason I feel confused about this because I didn't know viruses could lead to ear and eye infections, but then again this is my first experience with either of those (I have two kids) so I may just have a lot to learn! The doctor prescribed him a 10-day antibiotic (2x a day). I wish he didn't have to take it for so long but he's been miserable long enough...hopefully this will do the trick!!

Thanks again everyone!!

My LO just broke out in a rash that looks exactly like roseola, plus fever, sore throat and no appetite. He has strep throat. It's a good idea to go to the doctor to rule that out, especially if you have symptoms too... roseola isn't really contagious as far as I understand.

DD had roseola at about 9 months - she had a bit of a runny nose day 1, day 2 fever spiked to about 39 degrees celcius, not responding to ibuprofen/paracetamol, but then suddenly dropped to normal. then she got this rough feeling red spotty rash all over her torso then arms and legs. it lasted for a week or so? hope you get some answers from your doctor asap incase its another virus :(

When my DD had roseola, she had a high fever (104 range) that responded to Tylenol and ibuprofen for about 3 days. It broke on the fourth day and she got a rash of tiny dots on her torso and a bit on her arms and legs. She was a little cranky but there was no vomiting and her eyes looked fine. I'd call your ped just in case.

I agree that does not sound like roseola...when we had it, LO had a 102 fever for 2-3 days, then it broke and he got a rash on his torso the next day.

When our boys had roseola they had a high fever for a day or two and then it broke and they got the rash that is typical with roseola. I'm sure it presents differently, but what you're describing doesn't sound at all like our experience. I would check with your pedi again.

My son woke up from his nap on Saturday with a 104.5 fever and his fever stayed in the 103-104 range through Sunday. Yesterday and today his fevers have been in the high 101s-102 range but they do respond to Advil/Tylenol. I didn't give him Advil before his nap today because he didn't have a fever and it had been about 6hrs since his last dose - I was hoping he was feeling better. Nope. He just woke up from his nap with a 104.7 fever. Other symptoms include decreased appetite, a lot of crankiness/fussiness/tears (although sometimes he's laughing and playing and totally fine), inflamed throat, some vomiting (none today though), and today the whites of his eyes are red/pink. He took a strep test on Monday and so far it's been negative.

Also, I woke up on Saturday with a severe sore throat, really runny nose, and a postnatal drip. I thought it was severe allergies but it seems I actually have a bad cold or viral pharyngitis.

Could my son have roseola or does it sound like maybe he has what I have/had but just in a more severe form. So confused. I thought once temperatures start to go down, they generally stay down...but guess I'm wrong?
