@Mrs. Pen: Ugh. Poor J! I know a few kids who got a rash/fever/overall miserableness about a week after the shot. It passed really quickly for them, I hope it does the same for you!

@Ra: on his back yes, but bigger on his cheek and medium on his stomach. He has just one on his stomach that actually looks like the measles - red outlying and a white middle. Poor kid is miserable. I gave him motrin to try and help him nap but it didn't seem to help.

@Ra: J had his MMR 8 days ago and today has a rash... It doesn't look exactly like that. It's on his face, back and stomach and I'm wondering if it's a reaction.. He was also miserable for half the day. No fever, though.

Google isn't helping :-P

@Mrs. Pen: They don't think so. The rash turned out to be hives and he's had them on and off since then. The doc said that most of the time you never know what brings them on. They never bothered him or affected his mood, they were just scary looking.

@rahlyrah: I think no fever is definitely a good sign as far as HFM goes. It seems like it always starts out with a fever whenever someone posts about it on here.

@rahlyrah: I googled the photos, too! I agree, it doesn't look similar at all.

Can you call an after hours line? I would want answers and want to know what to look for (fever? Rash spreading? Irritability, refusing food, etc)

Yes, it could be an MMR reaction. My LO had a rash and a low grade temp 7 days after her shot. She was fine and not bothered by the rash at all. The rash faded in a day or two, and was completely gone in about a week. I hope your LO is okay too.

ETA: does not look like HFM to me. We've had that too.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: @lawbee11: Thanks ladies! My only concern is that it doesn't look like the images of measles that I see when I google (because, ya know, it NEVER backfires when you google these things!). I'm not concerned if it is an MMR reaction, I'm more worried that it might be something else.

He's acting fine and doesn't have a fever. I'm hoping that means it's not HFM.

@rahlyrah: The CDC's website lists a rash under the "mild problems" heading (instead of the moderate or severe problems heading), so that's a good sign. Here's what it says:

MMR vaccine side-effects
(Measles, Mumps, and Rubella)

What are the risks from MMR vaccine?
A vaccine, like any medicine, is capable of causing serious problems, such as severe allergic reactions.
The risk of MMR vaccine causing serious harm, or death, is extremely small.
Getting MMR vaccine is much safer than getting measles, mumps or rubella.
Most people who get MMR vaccine do not have any serious problems with it.

Mild Problems
Fever (up to 1 person out of 6)
Mild rash (about 1 person out of 20)
Swelling of glands in the cheeks or neck (about 1 person out of 75)

If these problems occur, it is usually within 7-12 days after the shot. They occur less often after the second dose.

I did a quick google and found this article

http://www.babycenter.com/404_my-child-developed-a-rash-about-a-week-after-receiving-the-m_12356.bc

If you hadn't mentioned the mmr vaccine, I would have guessed an allergy to mosquito bites! That's what I look like when I am bitten.

B got his MMR ten days ago. A few days ago, I noticed a few spots on him but just assumed they were some sort of bites. Tonight, when we got him ready for bed we saw that he was covered in spots. They don't seem to be bothering him, he doesn't have a fever, and has been eating/drinking fine. I'm a little concerned though because they don't look like measles.

Any ideas?
