I never got it. My LO had a fever for 3 days. Right when the fever disappeared is when I noticed the rash. Mine didn't have it too terribly so they didn't seem to bother her. Rash was in the diaper area first and then I noticed them on the hands, feed, etc. Doctor confirmed they were in the mouth.

Also beware that fingernails and toenails can fall off a ~few weeks-month later. I was starting to think she had some horrible disease until I ran across that side effect.

Both of my kids has fairly short lived fevers with HFM (like less than 12 hours) and the fevers were never severe (101'ish). My older had a fairly mild case with no sores in her mouth. My DH got it within a week of her getting it. It was MISERABLE for him (DH lost all of his finger and toe nails). Our second DD got it brutally. She was covered in sores. She was 9 months old and mostly didn't slow down and continued to drink okay. I think most of her sores were outside her mouth rather than inside. Thankfully no one got it with our second DD. We were hosting our older daughters birthday party the weekend she had the fever and broke out.

I hope you don't have HFM. My niece got s mild case a few months ago. My mom babysat her. Then my mom got it so badly she said it tied with shingles. Months later two of her finger nails just fell off this past weekend and her feet still look horrible. It was awful.

oh poor baby. we've had HFM multiple times in our household. one time i got the mouth sores and it was excruciating, so i now completely understand why the kiddos are so miserable when it comes to eating. drinking anything, whether cold, lukewarm or hot was miserable. i recommend keeping her on meds around the clock like @muffinsmuffins: mentioned, and rubbing some baby orajel around in her mouth. i went to the doctor and got a prescription for a lidocaine oral rinse, but obviously that wouldn't work for a toddler.

this too shall pass. i'm so sorry!

Ugh it's the worst! Sorry you're going through this. Our son had it around the same age. 4 days of inconsolable, not eating, fever, not sleeping, etc. Then 2-3 days of a little bit better sleep, still not eating a lot. We gave Advil around the clock, keeping strict track of the time to give the next dose or else he would be worse. He had most visible sores on his hands and feet, couple on his mouth, and I couldn't keep track of old vs. new. They took a week or two after to fade completely. I did catch it from him and it started with fever and body aches and then sore throat and a bit of confessions, and sores on hands and feet. We did a lot of pouches, applesauce, baby oatmeal, milk, smoothies...he still didn't really want to eat but we kept offering. We did a little Pedialyte as well. Everything cold or room temp. He also would eat some scrambled eggs too.

This happened to us last month.

3 yo was sick with fever for 4-5 days, never over 103, but would only go down with meds. Fever finally broke, but the sores around his mouth didn't show until five days later. Def HFM, but not typical timing as far as the symptoms.

During that time, DH developed fever and flu like symptoms so we thought it was HFM? But no sores anything, just a couple of days of sore throat. I caught it a couple of days later with the same symptoms DH had.

3 yo's HFM sores cleared about a week or two later.

I have lots of questions and I'm hoping y'all with your wisdom can help me.

DD is 16 mo she had a mild fever starting a week ago (Monday) by Tuesday it was steadily 103- and still is almost a week later when she's not on meds. If your LO had HFM how long did their fever last? What about the sores in the mouth? T had one sore for a few days then tons on Friday and seems to be getting new ones but the old ones are shrinking. She only has one sore on her neck and possibly her hand. It's been a struggle to get her to eat and she has only had WCM since Tuesday. Any tips on encouraging her to take a bottle? We tried pedialite, Popsicles, juice etc and she's refusing everything- including milk most of the time. She's crying a lot and waking several times a night and during her nap. She's generally inconsolable. I solo parented till Thursday evening and DH catches a plane this morning and gets home Wednesday afternoon.

The plot thickens- yesterday (Sunday) I woke up with a runny nose and chest congestion. Last night I had body aches and a mild fever- that went away mostly. Now I'm totally plugged up with a mild cough. What gives? Did anyone get sick with something besides HFM when their child had it? Is it possible I will still get HFM?
