Thanks everyone for the suggestions! Walked a lot today too but no shortness of breath today. It's allergy season for me as well right now. I'm taking Zyrtec which has always helped and my doctor cleared me for it. I'll bring it up next appointment.

My asthma has been okay during pregnancy, but I am a little concerned about labor. I have exercise AND allergy induced asthma (since HS), and when I was diagnosed, the doctor said if I didn't exercise etc, having a baby would be like running a marathon to my lungs. I've danced my whole life, and I am trying to be diligent about walking now, so we'll see!

If it gets worse, I'd talk to your doctor. I'm on an every day med for the asthma, and I have my emergency inhaler.

I'm a lifetime asthmatic. It got better during pregnancy. I could still use my inhaler since it didn't reach the baby. Shortness of breath was tough, but it was manageable in pregnancy.

I wrote a post on this! I have asthma that got so bad during my pregnancy my OB threatened to hospitalize me. It remained worsened after delivery, and now I have a nebulizer. We recently replaced the carpeting in our house with laminate flooring & its made a huge difference. I also saw an allergist/pulminologist to pinpoint my allergens and to determine a course of treatment.

Good luck! It's scarier when you're pregnant!

I have asthma from time to time. Usually brought on with activity during peak pollen counts. I know what you are talking about. I have regular appointments with my allergist to help keep an eye on things & he has me coming in during the beginning of my third trimester to reevaluate my asthma as it tends to get worse later on. At least that is what he told me. It wouldn't hurt to let your dr know & get an approved rescue inhaler.

I can tell you that at the begining of my second trimester I had to start taking the elevator at the gym to get up stairs. It would wind me so much that my entire workout was shot! Its embarrassing but its what my body needs in order to keep trucking through. Good luck sugar!

Also, I read somewhere that since your blood volume is increasing, it swells up everything including the little thingies in your lungs that absorb oxygen (can't remember the technical term, but whatever) - thus making it harder to breathe.

Maybe allergies too? I have sort of a weird presentation of allergies, that started for the first time this year. Rather than the typical eye/nose/throat symptoms-- I have shortness of breath! It feels like I can't take a deep breath and like my lungs are swollen or something. I went to the doc thinking something was really wrong with me and nope-- allergies! Zyrtec took care of it, then it went away as summer went on. When I got pg the allergies came back. Luckily zyrtec is pg-approved

I've had mild asthma most of my adult life, usually triggered by allergens, but I have noticed it's worse with this pregnancy. I didn't notice an increase in symptoms with my first pregnancy, but we're living in a different part of the country now where dust and mould (my two main triggers) are more prevalent. I've had to use my Ventolin nearly every night due to shortness of breath, tightness in the chest, and wheeziness. Shortness of breath is common with pregnancy, but wheezing is not.

From what I've read, it's a pretty even split between the percentage of people whose asthma improves, worsens, and stays the same during pregnancy, so it might be worth mentioning at your next appt, just so your doctor is aware.

Yup this is a pretty typical pregnancy sympotom since your lungs have less room to expand. Just don't push yourself!

@Mrs. Champagne: That's probably what it is. Just surprised it didn't take much walking to do me in and it took much longer to rest. Lol. Pregnancy can really put you down and out.

I'm on vacation at the moment and 16 weeks pregnant and we just got through walking down the street doing some sightseeing. I got a little tired, but still felt pretty good.

After getting back to the hotel room, I noticed that if I take a deep breath I have to cough. It feels like asthma symptoms. I've had mild asthma in the past my whole life, but nothing that ever had to be treated. It only flared up when I was active and went away after I rested.

After quitting smoking 2 years ago and exercising often to get my cardio up I haven't had any symptoms since. Am I just having a flare up because pregnancy is aggravating it or should I be more concerned?

I've been laying in the hotel room for 45 minutes now so I'm well rested.
