I just started keeping those big chunky crayons or a pen and paper out on the coffee table. She is 16 months and sometimes I catch her still nomming on the crayons a bit, but she also loves to draw all over paper....the table....books...the floor...my laptop....the sofa...haha, you get the picture! We started just before his first birthday. He's 22 months and draws the letter "O" and faces (circle with two little eye circles). He tells me about what he's drawing, "o! O, mama" and "eyes, eyes, mama, dada" so I know he gets it. At first she did a lot of dots more than scribbles, and I had to watch her to keep her from eating the crayons. Now at 22 months she "draws". In the beginning he actually did better with markers because he didn't have to put much pressure on it to make marks on the paper. I think it helped him make the connection.
