@photojane: baby whisperer suggests a dream feed up to 7 months. So I dropped the cluster feeding and kept trying on the dream feeds. Guess my one isn't one that stays asleep and eats!

@hilsy85: @birdofafeather: I tried the dream feed because I read this: http://noobmommy.com/2008/10/feeding-101-from-baby-whisperer.html and it says to do a dream feed up to 6 weeks, but doesn't suggest it after that...?

I don't know but last week I tried to wake my baby (who is older and doesn't usually do a dream feed) because she spit up a lot of her bedtime bottle, and she just wouldn't wake up and suck.. I gave up and just put her back in bed. I don't know if it's an age thing but I guess not all babies can wake and eat half asleep...

@hilsy85: she's 9 weeks so that's why I was trying to make it work. Since last night was one if the worst in recent memory I think I'm going to go back to feeding her one last time before we go to bed by waking her and then getting a full feed in. Unless anyone else has any advice?

We never did a dream feed, but everyone I know that did fed from a bottle. Maybe because the flow is faster they kind of have to drink it?

How old is she? I've heard dream feeds start to become effective after 8 wks or so...we tried at 6 wks and it didn't work but we never gave it a shots later on!

We can't even dream feed from a bottle! It worked once, but she usually won't latch/suck if she's asleep. Like @London Mama it doesn't really make a difference for us though, so I can d without. For us cluster feeding before bed works just fine for getting longer stretches of sleep.

Personally, dream feeds never made a difference. In the end I just let DS sleep and fed him whenever he woke up, following his natural rhythm seemed to work best for us. He used to wake up around 9.30-11 which was around my bed time.

Ughhhh I'm so sorry. Following this. I am not sure if it works from the breast either :( I successfully fed J without waking him one night but he woke even earlier than usual that night !

I've been trying to implement a dream feed but R never latches or sucks. I usually end up waking her, getting a full feed in and then we all go to sleep easily. She usually goes at least 5 hours after that.

Tonight we got to bed early and I tried again. This time, she actually sucked a bit, but not like a regular session. I thought, oh, she got some down, great! Dream feeds work! I don't have to wake her up!

Nope, an hour later, she's crying. Dang it! Okay, no problem, change her, feed her. Go to bed. She's fussy. Okay, rock her more. Go to bed. She's crying. Okay, paci. Go to bed. Crying. Eff! Change her diaper, top her off. She's asleep 2.5 hours after this "dream feed." I'm awake. Blah.

Has anyone been successful dream feeding from the breast?! It seems like too much effort to make a bottle for it. I think I'll just go back to waking her up for that last feeding so I can go to sleep. So much for that early bed time.
