@T.H.O.U.: that is definitely DH reasoning. He doesn't want to add one more thing that we have to do. Because she certainly isn't going to clean it up! LoL

@Andrea: exactly my point!! She'll be tearing it apart all the time to find something @Rocker2014: definitely one of my fears

@yin: I saw some cute ones at home goods today and was thinking about buying one if we end up doing a trunk!

Thanks all. I think because of time we might en uo doing the trunk. In the future when we have more time DH can always build her one from scratch. There's just no time right now with his health issues, building a dining bench and you know the 50 million other house projects. :)

What about a coat rack? My niece uses it for her dress up clothes, and it's really easy to put everything away.

I think either is an awesome gift, but just a thought about trunks - I have a trunk in my living room and the lid regularly slams shut on my head when I'm putting things in it. I've had major bruises from this! I'm actually looking into ways to secure it shut when E gets old enough to start cruising to protect her little fingers and head.

Good luck putting this amazing gift together for DD!

The idea of hanging stuff sucks. I hate hanging her clothes let alone 8 dresses. Plus poofy dresses take up a lot of space hung up.

Our friend had a good idea and used two drawer sets on either side and put a bar between them. Or like the cubby things find them that are like three cubbies high, put a board on top to hold them apart and then a bar between them.

I currently use a trunk and I would go for a dresser instead! It is hard to find things in it and they end up throwing everything out to get to the bottom. I want another solution for our stuff. It's on the to do list. :silly:

@regberadaisy: I think so too. I like the idea of her being able to see it and I think it would be so much easier to keep organized and things are less likely to get damaged.

@regberadaisy: we had a trunk, and it fit like 4 dresses. They were always wrinkled and in a heap. It was such a mess!

What about an IKEA dresser? That's what we used. It was mine from college, but they're so cheap I wouldn't feel guilty buying one new & not using the drawers. Less to assemble, and no painting required!

This isn't something to make but my daughter has u shaped hooks under her window that I've hung her princess dresses from and she loves it. It does take a little more time to go hang them then to stuff them in a trunk

@loveisstrange: ha those are pretty much the same ideas I have saved. I just feel like when she's playing dress up it will be much more enjoyable that way. Versus pulling everything out of a trunk.

We're going to make her some kind of rack, probably for her birthday. I bought an antique standing mirror at a thrift store last year, so we'll set them together and she'll have her own little area. We found some free plans online to make a basic one, or we'll repurpose a small dresser.

We're making DD 1 a Dress up "something" as her big Christmas present. We don't have any old extra dressers laying around so I've been checking Craigslist and local resale groups. I found the absolute perfect child Dresser to repurpose a few weeks back. Alas, I didn't get back to the seller in time and he sold it.

Ever since we've been looking and can't find anything suitable @ $50. DH did find a pretty neat trunk that actually has a pull out drawer for jewelry and in the trunk it self there are compartments that would work well for hats and such.

I just feel like with a trunk it would be way less organized. Everything will get thrown in. But DH said who am I kidding. When we tell her to clean up, trunk or Dresser it's all getting thrown in. She won't nearly hang everything on Hangers. Lol

So, does anyone have a Dress up trunk or Dresser? Thoughts?

I need to make a decision ASAP because, you know, Christmas is in two weeks and we need time to refinish whatever we buy...
