I used to put a piece of construction paper up over the changing table and let her put stickers on it during /after changes. It got us through the tough times!

@gingerbebe: good ideas, thanks!

@Astro Bee: sitting in the chair is a good idea, that went ok when I tired it last night.

@GoGoSnoGirl: he will stay still just long enough to get the dirty diaper off, but I can't get the clean one on!

@cam: yes he pulls up. In the crib is an idea, or I have a gate on his door that he loves to pull up on. Thanks!

@catomd00:  at least it will be warmer and I won't have to put so many layers on him...

@jape14: books! Why didn't I think of that? We love Boynton in our house

@brownepiano: yeah I hear you. I've been dressing on the floor but he still tries to crawl away.

It does get better, some. We moved to changing and dressing on the floor (no changing table). Sometimes when I was desperate, I'd pin him down with my feet while changing him. You do what you have to and eventually he'll be old enough to reason with.

For diaper changes, DS is super interested in books so we always hand him a board book. The Sandra Boynton books are perfect size for diaper changes - the hassle is when he wants to "read" Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus during a diaper change.

Flipping over is easy. Wait until he's running away, thrashing around like a dead weight.

diaper changes are still tough for us at 14mo, I would try to give him novel things to hold onto. Can he pull up yet? Once my DS could pull up I started dressing him in his crib standing up and it's pretty easy.

Uggh, I'm dealing with the same w/ my 8mo!! It's like wrestling an octopus!! Lol! I'm considering doing diaper changes on the floor so that she won't fall or knock a poopy diaper on the floor before I can get it tossed.

DS has been at this for the last couple of months. It started with flipping and leaning over the end of his change table. Now he wants to stand and climb the wall! I will usually give him something to hold onto/play with and it helps, somewhat. For dressing, I resort to sitting in the rocker and dressing him in my lap. Half the time he is crawling down and I have to change after him to get his socks on. Snaps on footies are impossible!

Blowing raspberries on belly, blowing air on his crotch or fanning or play swatting his bottom with a clean diaper, making exaggerated reactions to diaper contents, throwing a small towel over his face and playing peekaboo over and over, giving him diaper cream, my phone, or a small mirror or anything to play with while changing, using the belt really snug on the changing pad, switching over to separates so I can dress him standing up on the bed, etc.

@runnerd: Eek! I had a feeling. The diaper changes are so bad, mostly because he want to flip over and he cries if I lay him back down.

@Mrs.KMM: yes! He just wants to crawl away :silly:

So, any suggestions for making this easier? Distraction doesn't really work anymore.

Worse! Lol. Diaper changes became increasingly difficult when LO started crawling and went to nightmare level when he started walking. Clothing is a lot easier at 18mo, but diaper changes are still awful!

...is nearly impossible! DS will be 9 months next week and it's become increasingly difficult to change his diaper and dress him. He enjoys the game of flipping over and crawling around when I'm trying to hold him still.

I'm just wondering, is this going to get worse or at least remain the same for a long time? I've heard about toddlers who don't want to get dressed but I didn't expect it so soon. I can't overpower him anymore, he's too strong. It takes multiple tries to get anything on him. Those zipper footie pjs? Forget about trying to stuff his leg in there!
