I've been wondering this as well! I just bought a bunch of stuff on Carter's website yesterday, couldn't resist. Most were shorts and t shirt outfits with a hoodie. I heard that the baby needs one more layer than what you have on. So if we're just in shorts and a tee, maybe he needs a light blanket or hoodie?

I really don't know...lol!

@blackbird: this. I was born in June, and my mom said I was in a diaper or a onesie. I'm having a baby in June, and plan to have her in onesies, and will pick up a few long sleeve sleepers. My mom told me she probably won't need to be super bundled in the dead of summer. We also live in a warm climate :)

Honestly......E was born in April and during June, July, and August, wore a diaper or a onesie most of the time. Hell, it was 75 inside most days.

J was born at the beginning of June and wore cotton rompers when we went out and footed sleepers or long-sleeved onesies at home. I always thought he was more comfortable covered up inside! And you know we're in the same climate.

If it's truly hot, then just a onsie or a romper, or maybe just a diaper if it's miserable. My baby is also due in July, and I plan to have onsies, light jammies, and light pants ready.

haha, my first was born at the end of July and my second was due in Feb. I wasn't sure what to buy either and was wondering if I could just layer extra things to keep her warmer in the winter. I ended up buying a bunch of fleece onsies for night time and some new nb pants and long sleeved onsies. I would imagine you could do the opposite, just buy a few short sleeved onsies and maybe lighter cotton pj's if you use those. I know I usually had a sweater over B's short sleeved onsies in the summer as most places have the AC blasting.. so long sleeved ones should be fine.

I have an October baby and having a March baby this round, I think my 0-3 stuff will be okay (short sleeves, cotton pants, some dresses, ect.) but then I'll have to get more rompers, shorts, ect. so she's comfortable in the summer heat.

Edit: I totally struggle with this too, I haven't bought any clothes because I'm waiting until she's here to know her size. I don't' know why but last time I went crazy, this time I'm like "no don't'buy a thing until we know what her body is like!"

Long sleeve and pants were fine when we were at home. But when we went out, I put him in short sleeve onesies and rompers. He was born in May and it was way too hot! Plus, he'd get even warmer in his car seat. I would bring a blanket to drape over him if we went somewhere that was cooler.

If you are inside with the AC, I would think long sleeves are fine. But I wouldn't take a baby outside in the summer here in pants and long sleeves. Esp. the sweating in the car seat being RF.

Seriously I just got footed (cotton) sleepers because putting anything over a newborns head still freaks me out. And zippered sleepers = easy on the frequent diaper changes in the early days.

They can also just hang out in their diaper at home if it gets super hot.

We're having a second boy in a completely different season and I'm unsure how to proceed as far as buying clothes. DS1 was born in Feb, so all his little clothes are long sleeves and long pants and very, well, wintery. DS2 is due the end of July. My mom insists that we won't need clothes in the beginning, since newborns need to be bundled up. I never really thought about it, as DS1 was always bundled up anyway since it was freezing out. I was going to get him summery short sleeve/pant rompers and stuff in 0-3m, but now I'm wondering if she's right?

What do you think? Would a newborn be fine in the summer in long sleeves/pants? I really would prefer the rompers and swaddle blankets, but I don't want him to be uncomfortable either.....We're in the northeast (nj), so it will definitely be hot.

I feel like I shouldn't be this confused, but I am lol
