I tend to wear fitted tank tops with cardigans over top - the tanks suck in some things, and the cardigans are loose enough that they don't cling. I also find that mid-rise jeans/pants are awful for me - they have to be low-rise or high waisted, or else they cut my belly-flab in half and make things look weird.

Yes to the shapewear, you'll be surprised.

I actually wear more fitted clothing, when I wear stuff that is too loose and drapey, I feel larger.

I like the spanx that is for the hips so the leg parts go to mid thigh but it also goes up to below the bra. I buy it a size larger than usual so it's not tight and just smoothes things out more. I also have some "cheeky panties" that are high waisted that look good in dress pants and the like, where I will have a blouse tucked in

I wore (and still wear quite a bit) flowy tops with some detail to keep them away from the stomach, and dresses that are cut properly to hide the belly - so they emphasize boobs, are tight below the boobs, and flow out from there. Showing some cleave I felt distracted from the belly. I bought a small pp wardrobe of basics that were cheap that fit me well and hid the belly, and wore those on my mat leave so that I didn't feel like garbage. I think I bought a pair of jeans, a pair of funky pants, 3 basic tops, a black cotton dress, and some cool but flat boots so I wouldn't kill us on the ice.

I thought I would look normal after I gave birth, and I did not, and my body is still 7 months pp a totally different shape. I think it's important to dress in a way that looks good and makes you feel good pp, because it's hard enough to cope with body changes without also feeling like garbage about having nothing to wear that looks good!

I swear by the slimming tank and leggings from Soma. Not super cheap but they really live up to their name. The tank lets me feel more comfortable wearing close fitting clothes and other people notice the difference as well.

I wear a lot of maternity bottoms still, and I'm 20 weeks PP. I have one pair of pre-preg jeans that kind of fit, so I wear looser shirts with them.

I didn't give birth nor am I even pregnant, but I always have a stomach to hide. They key really is just to not wear anything tight! I pretty much wear jeggings/leggings exclusively, and wear a lot of flowy tops and wide tunics. To define my waist I can always just add a belt but the bottom part that flows out will always still hide my stomach!

I wore a lot of my maternity tops and dresses for a long time. I also did buy 2 pairs of well fitting pants for work and WOW - I felt so much better about myself!

i still wore my maternity clothes for a while--especially pants. maybe a flowy top and cardigan? or a non-form fitting dress and cardigan? don't forget to doll up your face, hair and accessories--you deserve to pamper yourself! have fun on your date night!!

@MrsH: do you have a wrap dress you could wear? they camouflage pretty well...or just wear some maternity jeans and a not too tight top? also, layering definitely helps! My solution isn't helpful to you...i lived in yoga pants until i went back to work, and squeezed on tight pants for my one date night with DH - i felt unattractive and uncomfortable - it was way too soon for pre-preg pants! but it was fun to pretend to be back in my pre-preg body for a night, haha.

OH and have fun tonight!! try not to discuss your LO the whole time, and try not to dwell on your appearance - put on some pretty jewelry or something that makes you feel like a million bucks :)

Hmmmm. Shapewear is good. Target has a Spanx brand that is cheap and should get you through. Leggings and tunics are always a good option. You can also get away with wearing a lot of black this time of year - dress it up with a pretty scarf or fun jewelry. I wore a lot of this outfit pp: boots or ballet flats, skinny jeans or leggings, long t-shirt, long cardigan, scarf.

This baby weight isn't coming off and I'm way less toned than before. How did you camouflage the lumps and bumps PP?

I still look 5 months pregnant and have nothing to wear on my first PP date night with DH that is tonight :(

Eta: I do not want to buy a whole new wardrobe but would buy a couple of pieces or some shape wear if you have specific recommendations.
