Thanks everyone! I am going to pump and dump just to be sure. I don't plan on doing this often so ill enjoy and feed him from pumped milk already in the fridge and then pumped this out.

Like @mamabolt: I go by the if you're ok to drive, you're ok to nurse theory.

From kellymom.com:
"In general, if you are sober enough to drive, you are sober enough to breastfeed. Less than 2% of the alcohol consumed by the mother reaches her blood and milk. Alcohol peaks in mom’s blood and milk approximately 1/2-1 hour after drinking (but there is considerable variation from person to person, depending upon how much food was eaten in the same time period, mom’s body weight and percentage of body fat, etc.). Alcohol does not accumulate in breastmilk, but leaves the milk as it leaves the blood; so when your blood alcohol levels are back down, so are your milk alcohol levels.

Always keep in mind the baby’s age when considering the effect of alcohol. A newborn has a very immature liver, so minute amounts of alcohol would be more of a burden. Up until around 3 months of age, infants detoxify alcohol at around half the rate of an adult. An older baby or toddler can metabolize the alcohol more quickly."

In the other thread, some talked about having the drink while your LO is feeding, because the milk they are drinking is already stored milk , therefore not affected! However, I would do your research just to make sure lol

I was a bit more cautious when LO was a newborn but I still had wine on occasion ;). After LO went to bed I pumped (or didnt if I had plenty of milk still in the fridge or freezer) and then had a drink or 2. If I felt at all tipsy, since 2 can def make me feel tipsy then I didn't nurse her, she just drank pumped milk. But since it was night she wasn't going to nurse as much anyways. So she'd get pumped milk for the first night feeding and I'd nurse her for the second one, which would be like 6-7 hours after I had wine.

@mjane: LOL!

I go by that if you are ok to drive, you're ok to nurse. I have a glass of wine almost every night after we put LO down, and occasionally a second glass. But LO sleeps usually at least 8-2 or 3, and more often until 5, so I have plenty of time for it to get out of my system.

There was another thread about this yesterday or the day before that you might want to find (I didn't look for it - sorry.) I would definitely dump if you have more than one, but one should be fine.

@MrsBeachyBaby: When was the last time you drank? I had a pretty high tolerance prior to getting pregnant and half a glass of wine is enough to make me buzzed. You might not be able to handle more than one!

Here's an idea: just pour two glasses into an extra big wine glass and call it one. :)

You don't need to pump and dump. I have a glass of wine /beer after I put LO done for bed. It takes about 2 hours for alcohol to leave your system.

Hi everyone! I have been able to eat the things I have missed while being pregnant and I would really like to have a few glasses of wine tonight before the hurricane hits. Hubby gets to be home tomorrow so it's a perfect night. I am currently only breastfeeding/pumping. No formula. What do you ladies do when you want to drink? When I was in the hospital the lactation consultant said that if I am having more than a glass of wine I should feed him first then after drinking pump and dump. Is this what others do?
