You do need the water, but a lot of other fluids do count too. Soup, even, and watery fruit like melons, grapes etc- it all adds up. I find once I have a bottle with what I call a sucky neck I can drink a lot more than from a glass- or like Chopsuey, a straw does help. Good luck with it!

I drink 120ish ounces a day now that I'm nursing. I probably drank more while I was pregnant.
I drink a lot more when I drink from a straw.. So I used to go to Starbucks and ask for Venti Ice Waters (they're free!) and I would drink and refill (from water dispense at work) throughout the day. I probably refilled it 6-8 times a day. Was peeing non stop and didn't get bloated my entire pregnancy! My rings stayed on til I went into labor and my feet didn't swell.
I LOVE WATER!

I only drink water and coconut water. It helps that I like tea, so I have a bunch of decaffeinated teas at home and at my desk (such as ginger and decaf Lipton). I can't drink juice or soda unless they are super diluted because too much sugar makes my face hot.

I've also trained myself to drink after every bathroom trip--even the late night ones. It's kind of a game for me--I just think water out, water in. I keep a bottle of water at my bed and in the bathroom. I also keep a 24 oz water bottle at my desk. And yes, sometimes jazzing it up with cucumber or lemons helps.

I also have a hard time drinking. I'm thinking about buying some bangles or something to put on my wrist. I'll take one off whenever I finish a cup of water (which is all I do drink) so I'll know how much I drank that day and the goal is to get all the bracelets off. Hopefully that will motivate me.

I make sure to have super cold water with me at all times, and I just sip it constantly. Drinking water in huge quantities makes me feel sick even still at 31 weeks (but I have hyperemesis), I can get through 2-3 litres of fluids that way.

I have this same issue, I will literally gag sometimes when trying to drink water, especially if its not SUPER cold. My Dr. told me i really need to up my fluid intake so I drink water first thing, when I'm more thirsty and down as much as I can. Then I drink sugar free apple juice, orange juice, water with crystal light and try and still drink as much water as I can.

Lemon or lime slices in my water helps. Do you like juices at all? I love lemonade (its super, super easy to make), and it's good watered down too. Cranberry juice is a good juice to water down, and a drink I loved first trimester was watermelon juice, water and lots of lime - try drinking it super chilled - very refreshing. What about sparkling water?

You can also try eating more fresh fruits that have lots of water in them naturally - like watermelon.

Have you been ill during your first trimester? I found I couldn't keep up with the water intake at that point. Once I got to 12 weeks and beyond, I actually felt thirstier than ever before. I'm not a drinker either, can go all day w/o drinking a thing normally. I found if I use my 24oz cup, I only have to fill it up 3x a day - that is manageable. You just have to change your mindset a bit and think it's for the good of the baby. :) Believe me, I feel your pain!!

I had the same kind of issue, I found buying cranberry juice or grape juice and putting a little bit of it in water made it a lot easier to drink

My midwife told me I need to be drinking 8-10cups of liquids a day. I'm lucky if I drink 4 or 5 and most of that is milk. I literally gag trying to drink. I've never been much for liquids and often go a whole day without ever having a drink. I know this can cause pregnancy problems. I'm 12weeks now and need advice to increase my fluid intake. Help!
