Our LO arrived around your due date and I basically had our family Thanksgiving moved to the week after Christmas because I wasn't comfortable flying before he had his shots (and the ped wouldn't give him the 2-month shots before his birthday). Everyone was super understanding and by 3 months we felt a lot more comfortable with it. We were also able to avoid big crowds by flying on Christmas day. If you're planning this far in advance, maybe your family could be flexible? I don't think it would've been the end of the world to fly at 2 months but I also didn't think it was worth the anxiety. I definitely wouldn't drive either way!

We did a 9 hour drive each way when our LO was 7 weeks and it wasn't too bad. I didn't want him on a plane that young. We split it into 4-5 hour legs and stopped at a hotel each way though b/c we didn't think LO could handle the car seat that long...not sure if that would work for you since the drive is longer. LO pretty much slept while we were driving and I pumped in the car and gave him bottles.

I said drive. If you have the time, you will be able to take more stuff....plus not have to deal with thanksgiving air travel and all the sicknesses.

yea its like 3 hours. My husband flys a LOT for work (he has been on 8 or 10 flights already this year). Because of that we can pretty much automatically always get the bulkhead seats which I guess would be great with the baby.

Thanks everyone. I did not even think about the shot situation. I am due Sept 23 and we were thinking about flying does to FL the weekend before Thanksgiving (Nov 16). It is hard to think about buying plane tickets if we won't be able to go because the baby has not had all of the necessary vaccinations. And you can't really wait until Sept to buy tickets for thanksgiving break :-/

We are probably going to rent a house on VRBO/AirBnB or stay with my grandma, so we would need to bring all of the necessary items with us (car seat/portable crib).

Fly!!! We just flew with our 3 month old and she was an angel. I wore her through the airport and then on the plane she nursed during take off and slept on my lap the rest of the way! Driving would really suck because you would have to stop soooooo often. Plus my LO would have slept all day in the car then been up all night. Not fun.

My parents were kind enough to buy duplicates of the essential items ( car seat, rock n play, diapers, etc) to keep at their house so we didn't have to worry about bringing too much stuff.

Fly!!!! My LO was still eating every 2 hours then. I can't imagine stopping that much. The baby wont really need that much at that age, and flying would be so much easier.

Fly! I agree with @mediagirl put her in a baby carrier so that no one will be able to get at her!

We did a 3 hour drive with our 2 month old and it was really stressful...

I flew with dd for the first time when she was 2.5 months old. From GA to PA. I hate being in the car for longer than 3 hours. Also, Lo hated being in her car seat.

FLY. We flew with our 2.5 month old to Florida and it was SO easy. I agree, make sure your lo is at least 2 months and has had his/her shots. I wore her the whole time and my husband sat next to me so, no one came in contact with her. I would not wish that drive on anyone with a 2 month old...

Is your LO going to have their shots by then? Even so.... I'd be nervous about putting a teeny tiny baby on a plane when it's the season for people to start getting sick.

I am currently pregnant and due with my first baby at the end of Sept. Being a crazy planner, I have started thinking about taking a trip to FL for Thanksgiving to introduce the baby to some family.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on driving vs. flying with a 2 month old. My parents have a second house in South Carolina so we would be able to break up the trip by stopping there. Cost of driving v. flying is not really a concern, it is just more about having to bring everything for the baby with us. My husband has a flexible schedule so we could take more than a week for the whole trip.

Any thoughts on driving vs. flying?
