In my experience, traveling w lo1 gets worse the longer shebis confined to one space. So, shorter time period to sit still on an airplane wins. </p> <p>Plus carsickness...</p> <p>And fwiw, my hometown is a similar distance from our current city (flight time is about an hour, drive after about 45 mins) and it's a super easy trip. He would almost always prefer fly and I would prefer to drive. I think with 2 kids and so much stuff, its just so much easier for me to pack and organize things if we can just shove it in the car. Packing for flights takes me FOREVER with lists and weighing the bags and its so stressful. Also DS1 is a loud cranky traveler and if the kids are going to scream, I'd rather it be in the privacy of my own car.</p> <p>We live a 6-7 hour drive from my folks or a 75 minute flight, and I keep arguing that between parking the car, dragging the luggage, checking in, going through security, waiting in the boarding area, flying, getting off the plane, getting the bags, waiting for DH to go get the rental car, properly installing all the carseats, and then driving from the airport to our destination, its not really that much of a time savings. Like, I seriously did the math and I think it saves us like an hour. Not to mention the cost. </p> <p>We have to go see my family in May and I convinced DH to drive. We are going to leave in the middle of the night so that the kids can continue to sleep in the car until we arrive in the morning and then hang out with their grandparents. </p> <p>In your situation, being that you have to get a car and drive another hour after you get there, I would probably drive. With our first it was always drive. Then we had the second who is a random vomiter. It became fly. For us the drive was an important part of our trip so we could see more family and friends.
