@Shutterbug: Thanks! Part of me is not looking forward to it, and another is very interested in observing what is going on inside my body. I'll be popping Advil soon!

I had mine before work one day and just walked to work afterwards. But I totally could have driven, no problem.

I had it done during my lunch break so I took the bus because I didn't want to drive downtown. It was uncomfortable for me afterwards. I think I could have driven if I had to.

DH drove me, but it wasn't necessary for me. My HSG was quick and painless, I definitely could have driven myself. Oh, but definitely take 3-4 Advil an hour before...I think that helped a lot with the minor cramping.

I drove myself, but I had my BFF on standby in case I needed her. I'm a notorious fainter. I asked the nurse like, 6 times before my appointment if I needed someone to drive me there and she said no. It was no big deal for me and I even went shopping on the way home.

My advice to you is to take a bunch of ibuprofen beforehand. I think that if you have any sort of blockage it can be pretty painful, but either way, ibuprofen can help with the cramping. Good luck! I was a nervous wreck before mine (two weeks ago) and it really was nothing.

Mine was not comfortable but it was quick and I was fine afterwards. I had to wear a pad afterwards that they gave me and I was wearing a thong so that was a bummer...I would recommend wearing granny panties that day! But you'll be fine to drive:)

Thanks everyone! Good to know.

I'll double check on their policy--I think the sheet didn't say you HAVE to, but that it's recommended. I don't even know if it's the hospital's own handout....I think it's a generic info sheet.

I drove, but I kind of regretted it. I had to go to a hospital kind of far away (40 minutes) and I was really crampy and tired on the way back. I was wishing I'd insisted that DH go with me. But it's not like I was going to pass out in pain or anything, I was just uncomfortable.

I drove myself - I had cramps after the HSG but it wasn't that bad. You may want to call the office to see why they recommend it. Like mrswin said it may be policy but it's not like you're under anesthesia or anything. It's like getting a pap (sort of).

@Happygal: I didn't have anyone take me home I took the subway back to work once I was finished! The procedure is no worse than a pap. But you should probably call and ask if they enforce it to be safe. I would hate for you to get there and then them refuse to do it because of policy or something. I know when I had my wisdom teeth out and my lap surgery they wouldn't even check me in unless I provided them with contact details for who was coming to get me and take me home which is understandable because I was put under.

I drove myself to work afterward, but my instructions said the same thing. As a back up, I had a coworker on "standby" (my office is much closer to the hospital I had the HSG than my husband's office, which is why I wasn't going to ask him to come get me unless it was necessary). I felt totally fine afterward though.

I'm having my HSG on Wed. The directions sent home with me said someone should drive you home afterwards. My husband can't be there due to work, and I don't really want to ask a friend. Is this really necessary?
