He slept for long stretches. It wasn't until 7 hours in he was really antsy and cried. We pumped him up with a lot of bottles, which looking back was not the best idea. She slept the entire way until the last 45 minutes. She mostly slept but when she was fussy, we'd shake her favorite rattle. </p> <p>H was much easier to travel with because she took a paci. Our normally-8hr trip ended up taking between 9 and 10...basically stopped for 20-30min every 2-3 hrs to feed. Getting better now. But at 4 weeks we drove 3 hours. She slept on and off. Screamed some. Etc. I knew she was fed and clean, we just kept driving for a lot of it. 😁</p> <p>My method that worked well: make sure they are good and tired. Rock the car seat until they are asleep. Clip it in and GO quickly. No stopping for gas,coffee, etc as that wastes precious sleeping time! Good luck. I would go :)</p> <p>ETA: my son was good at taking bottles so I would pump while driving and give him a bottle if needed so it avoided a stop. She did amazing!! we did it again when she was 13 months, and again she was awesome! We left at 3AM, and she slept for 3-4 hours, woke up, we stopped for breakfast, and sat in back with her after. We read books, and small toys, then she fell asleep for her morning nap as usual, and we powered through driving. I remember one time E cried the ENTIRE hour drive home, it was awful. It actually wasn't that bad, at least until it got past her normal bedtime and she started freaking out. This usually helps, DH drives and I sit in the back. We plan our drives in such a way that we leave home immediately after he eats and 9 times out of 10 he falls asleep soon.
