2 hours to my parents house. They would sleep the entire way back then which was so nice.

At 5 weeks old we drove 9 hours straight. He slept for long stretches. It wasn't until 7 hours in he was really antsy and cried. We pumped him up with a lot of bottles, which looking back was not the best idea. It kept him occupied, but he was probably uncomfortably stuffed.

We did 6 hours when DD2 was 7 weeks old. She slept the entire way until the last 45 minutes. I gave her a small bottle in her seat because we were stuck in traffic with nowhere to go and that tied her over until we could stop and I nursed and changed her.

A has only been to my parents house, which is an hour away. She mostly slept but when she was fussy, we'd shake her favorite rattle.

H was much easier to travel with because she took a paci. A refuses them all.

We live 3 hours from family. If they are crying, they usually settle down (and fall asleep) after 30 minutes.

I drove 8hrs with 3week old DD1; MIL was with me in the car for the trip. Our normally-8hr trip ended up taking between 9 and 10...basically stopped for 20-30min every 2-3 hrs to feed. It actually wasn't that bad because she mostly slept in between all of the feedings.

My daughter hated the car seat. Getting better now. But at 4 weeks we drove 3 hours. She slept on and off. Screamed some. Etc. I knew she was fed and clean, we just kept driving for a lot of it. 😁

My method that worked well: make sure they are good and tired. Rock the car seat until they are asleep. Clip it in and GO quickly. No stopping for gas, coffee, etc as that wastes precious sleeping time! Good luck. I would go :)

ETA: my son was good at taking bottles so I would pump while driving and give him a bottle if needed so it avoided a stop. My daughter hasn't been as good with bottles (especially at that age!) so we would make the full stop for a feed and diaper change.

I think I'd skip it - I feel horrible torturing them unnecessarily at that age :( I didn't take my son anywhere at 5 weeks except the doctor but I was probably a nutso first time mom

My DD was always pretty good in the car. at 3 months we went to visit DH's family, and it's a 9 hr drive with minimal stops. She did amazing!! we did it again when she was 13 months, and again she was awesome! We left at 3AM, and she slept for 3-4 hours, woke up, we stopped for breakfast, and sat in back with her after. We read books, and small toys, then she fell asleep for her morning nap as usual, and we powered through driving. I would do it again in a heart beat!

I almost always had an hour drive for dr. appts or shopping (country living perk). I remember one time E cried the ENTIRE hour drive home, it was awful. Most of the time he just slept.
I'd just try and time your trip after a feeding when you know he'll be tired and then feed him again before you go.

When K was about 2 months old we did an 8 hour road trip with her. It actually wasn't that bad, at least until it got past her normal bedtime and she started freaking out. For the drive home we made sure to leave early in the day so we'd be home before she went to sleep for the night.

@FaithFertility: Do you sit in the back with him? This usually helps, DH drives and I sit in the back. We plan our drives in such a way that we leave home immediately after he eats and 9 times out of 10 he falls asleep soon. He will start screaming if we are out longer than 3 hours especially if we run into traffic and the car slows down

We have yet to make a 15 minute car ride with DS 5 weeks with out him screaming at some point....

I know if he is well fed and changed all is ok and we should just bite the bullet and go....
