With most of my friends we take our own cars. I've driven one of my friends' kids though when we went to the zoo. There were 3 carseats in my car then! And they were 3 convertible carseats so they were pretty big. It felt like a lot but it was kind of fun!

When my friend and I take our baby girls out for girls days we all go in her car. My car is bigger but her LO is in a convertible seat and my LO is still in an infant seat so it's easier to just move her base. My friend's car is still big enough to fit both strollers in the trunk and that's all that matters.

You'd need a big SUV for three seats and 4 adults, plus gear. Got that alone I would go in separate cars.

I haven't shared a car with anyone and LOs but I would. None of my friends have an SUV but I'm getting one tomorrow and would feel comfortable driving other LOs. And depending on the parent (some seem like sketchy/bad/nervous drivers), I'd let them drive me and DD.

If we could all fit during out of town vacation, absolutely! Save $$!

We don't share because of the hassles with the carseat, but if we were going a long way, I'd carpool.

I feel comfortable driving other kids, and I feel comfortable with certain people driving my child, although no one has yet.

Sometimes when DS was still in the infant bucket seat we would carpool because it was easy and only really with our close friends. Now, with the convertible it can be a pain to switch and we also have friends with 2 kids so we wouldn't get everyone in together anyway... we end up meeting them there most times. We haven't done long trips or anything though.

@keiki_mama: lol! That's what I was thinking too! But DH wants to save $.

@Lozza: That's an excellent point! Mine is such a light-sleeper. IDK how she'd be in a car with a brand-new baby and a toddler!

In the case of you both having your own cars available, I probably wouldn't mess with changing out car seats and would drive separately. But if you're renting a car, I would totally only get one large SUV if it was a cost savings.

My BFF has a 4-year-old so when we go places together, I drive! It's easy for her to put her LO's car seat into my car and would be more of a pain for me to move the base of Xander's car seat into her car, so we always put her LO in my car! Xander's car seat is in the middle but her LO's car seat fits next to his. Plus her daughter LOVES riding next to Xander!!

We've carpooled with good friends, but only ones who fall in a similar place to us on the scale of laid-back to neurotic. We have friends who are on the neurotic side and while I'd certainly let my kid drive with them, I wouldnt' want to drive their kid around because it would make me nervous.
I don't really like carpooling for long trips because I like being able to tailor things to my LO's schedule and needs... we have friends who wanted to carpool on a 5 hour drive, but my kid sleeps well in the car and their's doesn't, so we declined.

I'm just thinking about how much stuff three LO's would have combined. I voted each parent drives their own LOs.

I'm too lazy to reinstall the carseat so we each take our own cars. Nothing is ever that far around here though.

We've gone to Big Bear with a couple friend of ours and their LO, and we each drove our cars... mainly due to the sheer amount of crap we both packed, but also because of the car seat situation. If it's just a day trip and adults & kids would fit comfortably in one car, I'd carpool... but otherwise, I'd rather take my own car.

If you are going somewhere with your friends and they also have a baby or LOs, do you take separate cars? Especially if both of your LOs require carseats? Do you carpool? Do you feel worried about driving someone else's LO, or worried about someone else driving your LO?

So far, I've always taken my own car. But we've already had a few instances where the drive could be pretty long, and wonder if we're being silly about driving 2 cars. We're also vacationing with my BFF, who has 2 LOs. DH wants to share a rental car, but can you imagine THREE car seats in one car?
