@Navy_Mommy: if you are catching it early enough, you can try one of two strategies: 1) be really diligent about trying to keep it dry by wiping up the drool 2) after bath, dry the area thoroughly and then apply a barrier-cream to protect the skin from the drool

I found doing #1 helped for my guy, but his skin isn't that sensititve.

i agree with mrs. wagon. the cortizone worked the best. i suggest using the cort 1x day before he goes to bed, so he doesn't lick it by accident for few days. you should notice a big difference then once it's cleared up, just keep putting aquaphor on it.

I hear you about them getting so big, so fast. I was a little bummed about that this morning looking at him in the car while pumping gas- I have never had a half year go by so fast!

@Mrs. Stroller wrote a great post about rashes: http://www.hellobee.com/2012/05/11/diaper-rash-drool-rash/

Wagon Jr. had crazy drool rash. At 2.5 years he's still soaking through bibs on bad days. He has an attached frenulum which makes for a drooler (Wagon Sr.'s is attached too!). We just tried to keep it dry as possible and put Aquaphor on it to keep it from getting wet again. At one point it got so bad it broke the skin, so the pedi prescribed some hydrocortizone/nystatin cream for it. Lately it's been pretty bad again (I think maybe it's mixed with eczema) and NOTHING worked except a corticosteroid. Cleared it up within a few days after trying many other prescriptions for WEEKS at a time.

My 12-week old is making a ton of saliva now, and she blow bubbles with her spit. Gross! Anyways, I use coconut oil for pretty much every baby-related malady, including drool rash. It has natural anti-microbial properties, and it works great!

I heard it's developmental - that they are increasing their saliva production. My LO was so drooly from 3-4 months and I had her in a bib all the time. Then around 5 months it decreased and she didn't need a bib all the time. She didn't get teeth until 6 months.

Anyway to help prevent drool rash I would use cetaphil lotion in the morning and at bedtime. I also applied Vaseline on her rashy spots throughout the day. I did this whenever she started getting a rashy area and it never got bad as long as I made sure to keep on top of it.

I have heard you can use EMAB butt balm on the chin for drool rash (I might get a separate jar for non-butt applications though).

We typically get drool rash under her neck. We put desitin on it at night and its gone by morning. She wears a bib almost all the time she's awake and for awhile was soaking 3-4 per day.

NavyBaby MUST be teething (at only 12 weeks) because he's drooling like a mo'fo! And want goes along with drooling...? Drool rash 8-(

At this point it's just on his chin, but what have you tried that helped fight drool rash?

PS - someone make my baby stop growing. He's getting too big too fast and he's not old enough to be teething ::pout::
