@HTownMom: @lemondrop: I've heard great things about those necklaces. I'll have to do more research.

@Trufflehunter: your post made me lol. and some good advice to boot. Thanks!
@Cherrybee: @snowjewelz: @2PeasinaPod: I've been applying cortisone and Aquaphor and it has helped tremendously!

Update for anyone in the future. His rash is much, much better (basically gone) after only 2 days of this routine:
-change bibs much more frequently. About 6 bibs per day. (Also about to order some waterproof ones from Amazon)
-wipe area with water, dry thoroughly, and apply Aquaphor throught the day. At least with every diaper change. One or twice when it was still bad I did use triple paste!
-At night I've applied cortisone cream since my ped recommended for eczema and coated with Aquaphor.. I think this is really what did the trick because the morning after the first night it was about 80% better!

Thanks again for all the advice!

Another vote for nappy rash cream. We used a barrier cream called Bepanthen - it worked wonders on her butt and her neck!

Same as @HTownMom: once my boys started wearing the amber necklace we had little to no drool. They also make bracelets and anklets if you want to avoid something around the neck.

My daughter has a rash there from time to time that gets smelly very quickly. I do this:
1. Wash in a bath with mild soap/soap free wash
2. Dry carefully and thoroughly. Have another person help if that is easier.
3. Apply some coconut oil, bepanthen, nappy rash cream or the like. Something to make a barrier to the moisture.
4. (Weather permitting) spend time outdoors to get some fresh air underneath the chin.

It will be cleared up within 24 hr but it will return again inevitably until she stops drooling, gets perfect head control, loses that real chubby baby face and gets a longer neck I guess :silly:

Have you tried an amber teething necklace? We put this on our LO and she hasn't drooled since then.

I agree with others that Aquaphor will help too! Good luck!

And fwiw, he doesn't seem bothered by this rash at all. I'm just worried it'll get worse and worse and eventually will bother him

Thank you all so much!
@jedeve: I've only noticed it in the last few days so I haven't asked his ped yet. Not to say it hasn't been there longer, I just don't see the underside of his chin often. :bummed: I'll try the suggestions here for a couple days and if no improvement I'll call her. She's 2 blocks away so it's wasy to drop in.
@blackbird: Today I rwlized that if someone stands behind him while he's on the changing table he looks up and back at them which gives me good access. So I'll try the hairdryer, I even have a mini travel one.
I've already been doing aquaphor but I also wondered about cortisone cream since it says it's for minor rashes. We're using it on his small eczema patches as the ped recommended, so maybe a thin coat of that with Aquaphor on top.
Or even a thin layer of triple paste. That stuff does wonders for his diaper area when need be.

I coat with aquaphor often to create a barrier. I also buy bibs off of etsy that are thicker and have a moisture barrier. And I change those a lot during the day. Eventually, it gets better when the drool stops.

Get the bibs that have the waterproof backing so it wont soak through to the chest part. I'd try something that has wax and grease in it, like a hand cream or salve or even chapstick.

We had that with our older daughter. We changed bibs frequently (think 5-6 per day). Her pediatrician also recommended a very thin coat of diaper rash cream.

The drool and reflux is why we didn't put clothes on E when she was little, since it seemed to do more harm than good. Maybe you can use a blow dryer on cool to dry him out there a little? I've done that before's too

My son has a red bumpy drool rash under his chin, where the skin also touches his neck/chest when he looks downward. He drools so much and the skin is never exposed to air there, I'm not sure how it will ever heal. I can't even get him to keep his chin up long enough to dry it before putting on aquaphor.
Will this eventually resolve itself or is there something I can do that I'm missing?? I always keep a bib on him for the drool but I'm wondering If that's making it worse because the bib is soaked and is always touching his skin. So I'll start with removing the bib and just letting his clothes get soaked. I'll just change him more often. Is there anything else???
