@Mrs. Jacks: They checked his eyes and said his ocular muscles are working perfectly. He had an MRI of his brain done last August when he was hospitalized with possible meningitis and it was completely clean. His ped said they could use that MRI instead of doing a new one. I haven't heard from the pediatric optometrist yet but they said we didn't need to get in a hurry to have him seen. They'll probably call in the next couple of days.

He's doing fine. To me I still can't see anything but the droopiness. It's only really noticeable in the evenings when he's tired but I still notice it. But T is none the wiser. Happy and playing like normal.

But I do feel like I was expecting more of an evaluation when we went. But at the same time, his doctor mentioned a lot of things that would cause for alarm along with the ptosis and he had none of them. Like you said, it was my concern that this was all related to his low muscle tone/delay.

@artsyfartsy: so they checked all the cranial nerves, reflexes, checked for clonus?

My worry was that the low tone, gross motor delay was related to the eye.

How's he doing now?

@artsyfartsy: weird. Droopy lid is more of a neuro rather than ophtho thing. Ophtho will know, but they aren't the typical referral.

The thing I was most interested in was does your LO have any other neuro findings consistent with weakness? For that reason, they need to look at more than just the eye.

His ped today said it looked fine. He noticed the droop but after a few tests he said it was probably nothing serious.
Referring us to an eye doc to follow up but he said he's 99% sure she'll say the same.

So that's good! I'm relieved. Although I'm feeling kind of silly for overreacting.

Not a satisfying appointment. This doctor was nice enough but I just felt like he was clueless to the situation and made a quick decision without really getting to know T or his background. He checked his eyes with a light and said that it looks fine but referred us to a pediatric eye doctor to see later this week.

I'm debating on just taking him to see his regular doctor tomorrow and getting a second opinion. At least he can refer us to an eye doctor closer to home. This is a 2 hour drive to be seen at this clinic.

This is what I was afraid of happening. I wish I could have waited until tomorrow to see HIS doctor but I wasn't comfortable with taking that chance. :/

ETA: The eye doctor couldn't get him in until next week so I just told them I was going to follow up with his ped tomorrow and have him refer us somewhere closer to home if that's what he wants. They said that was fine

I have a friend whose eye gets droopy when she's tired or had a few too many drinks. ( how her mom always caught us drinking as teenagers) it didn't seem to be a problem or affect her in any other way.

Hopefully it's just something like that. Sending good thoughts your way.

@twodoghouse: Thank you!!

@Mrs. Jacks: It's becoming more noticeable as the day progresses. He's also kind of sleepy. I'm taking pictures whenever I can to try and document it.

@littlebug: My right eye is a little droopy, but it's not my eyelid but the skin under my eyebrow that droops down some. I thought T was just developing something similar but apparently it's not really supposed to just "develop" suddenly.

@ValentineMommy: I hope so too. I hope I'm just being paranoid. I mentioned he's had allergies the past week but it's starting to clear. The nurse on the phone said that since it's just in one eye they don't think it could be that. But she didn't actually see it either so who knows! It doesn't look swollen/irritated to me but I also don't know really what I'm looking at.

@lulibee: Disorientation, respiratory problems, and something else but honestly I forgot the last thing now.

@Anagram: I can't think of anything that may have caused it. He's at daycare all day so I don't know if something happened then, but I would think anything serious enough to cause it we would have known about it.

Hope everything is okay! keep us updated later today after you find out more info.

I also have a droopy eyelid when I'm tired or when I first wake up in the morning--that eyelid also puffs more when I have seasonal allergies, for some reason. When I wake up in the morning, that eyelid is sometimes literally closed and I don't even notice until I've been awake for a couple of minutes and I have to think about it to open it, haha.

I never had the droopy eyelid problem until I was 13 and got a shard of glass in my eye that cut the cornea--I had to wear an eyepatch for a week and for some reason, it's been 'weak' ever since then.

@artsyfartsy: Please keep up posted! I noticed something similar with my boy this week too. However, it was extremely subtle...like my husband didnt' think it was a problem, but I could just barely tell. I couldn't tell if it was droopy or puffy, but whaterver it was, it was just barely noticeable. It went on like 2-3 days and is better now. I was wondering if it was allergies or something? I don't know, but I'd love to hear what they say.

Also, what were the signs they told you to look out for?

@artsyfartsy: Thinking of you! My left eyelid droops when I'm tired (or drunk). When I was an infant I had to wear eyepatches to strengthen the muscle. The pediatrician thought it was because I got stuck in the birth canal between contractions.
