@bunnylove08: If you ask the director, they might give you the names and emails of other parents in the daycare? Ours gave us a sheet with all the parents on it when we were considering applying (so we could do reference checks)...

Or you could hang out for a while during pickups... if you go at the same time every day and linger a bit, it's a great way to meet other parents!

We always dropped and ran. For the first week or two I waited outside the door until he stopped crying, and it never took more than a minute or two. Now he runs in barely looking back to say bye...

I did a drop and run today. I stood by the front door and listened for a little. She stopped crying by the time I folded my ergo into my tote.

Feeling much better about this. Thanks everyone!

@mrbee: how did you set up playdates with the other parents. We go to an home daycare and I never see any of the parents when I drop DD off.

Drop and run for me. I can tell the daycare teachers get agitated when parents linger and get the kids riled up.

I see this all the time with some babies and even preschool students. Transitions in general can be difficult for young children. Adapting varies from one child to another, give it a few weeks. :)

This is normal. Eventually, your DD will get more comfortable with her environment and caregiver where drop-offs will hopefully be easier on you.

Yes, like previously stated by the other bees, the longer you stay, it makes it harder for your child.

I've always told parents the same as your nanny. I based it on my experience working in the nursery at church when I was younger. Staying can definitely prolong the tears. Sucks though. :(

Lately, LO's been in all out cry mode for drop offs. He clawed at my face this morning. I'm trying the quick drop off method to eliminate tears as best I can. Still not successful.

I've stayed and it can prolong the tears!

We went on playdates with some kids from Charlie's daycare before he started... tht helped him a lot!

So our DD goes to a daycare 2 (consecutive) days a week and she has a nanny 3 days a week. When her nanny comes over she sometimes is shy and will cry but warms up to her after maybe about 10 minutes.

Today I dropped DD at daycare and I took her out of the carrier and put her on the floor and she started to wail. The nanny said I cannot stay because she will expect me to stay with her every time I drop her off. So I pretty much did a drop and run. Handed her to the daycare lady and left. I could hear her crying from outside.

I understand the reason, but I cannot help but feel bad for my DD. With the nanny I stay for about 15 minutes she interacts with DD and then I leave without her seeing me and she's fine.

Is this a normal thing? Anything I can do to make DD's daycare experience a more positive one?
