Just an alternative thought for you, but have you ever tried giving your girl a bottle and then nursing her? I was thinking that if your supply is low in the evenings and she's already got a full belly she might be more content to hang out and nurse? I was also thinking that if she's had her bottle you don't need to stress over how much she's drinking :-)

You're doing great Mama!

@daniellemybelle: Gotcha. I definitely remember nights of serious tears when LO was crying but wouldn't latch on, etc. at that age (EBF, still nursing at 12.5m). Anyways, if supplementing or bottle feeding makes you both happier, definitely do it!! Don't lose any sleep or thought about it. I just want to make sure you know some/all of that might be completely normal! I know there are lots of WOHMs who have shared that they were able to nurse night and morning successfully :)

@scg00387: Yep, we do paced bottle feeding but I still think she prefers the bottle somewhat. She likes to comfort nurse if she's not hungry but she gets so frustrated in the evenings.

@daniellemybelle: I do not have experience, but wanted to ask if you've read about bottle feeding breastfed babies? There are techniques, etc. to mimic breast feeding. it might be that the bottle is faster/easier for her and she is being lazy ;) Also, it's natural/normal for you to have less milk as the day goes on, it just gets fattier.

Hopefully someone can chime in for you on the other aspects!

I am transitioning my mindset about BFing from trying desperately to EBF to wanting to preserve a happy BFing relationship for both of us.

Right now I have about a 50-60% supply. We nurse every 3 hours during the day for at least 20 minutes on each side & then I offer a bottle, which she usually drinks all of. In the morning I have the most milk & she nurses great. Throughout the day my supply diminishes & so does her desire to nurse. I have been fighting with her for lack of a better description to get her to nurse as much as possible before I give her the bottle. However, I am starting to think I want to just offer the breast, and if she's not into it, go straight to the bottle.

I know this is a slippery slope into drying up and honestly I am okay with that. I'd rather us both enjoy nursing while it lasts. Of course, I worry it wouldn't last long at all if we stop nursing frequently. I'm hoping some of you have some experience with this? Is it really much different than, say, a baby that eats solids and doesn't nurse as much? I'm hoping that's how my body would see it and adjust accordingly.
