He said it could be from stuff building up on it and suggested soaking it overnight in rubbing alcohol. I did that and I haven't had a problem since. If he uses lotion and puts his ring back on it gets bad too. I think he makes sure his hand is completely dry before putting it back on. It can turn into a pretty nasty rash for him if he doesn't stay on top of it. He actually doesn't wear his ring a lot because he works in a lab and washed his hands all the time.
