@matador84: I thought it was excessive, too, but the bad bite happened right in front of the teacher. She apologized to me and felt awful. She said she just couldn't stop it fast enough. I understand it happens but it's hard for me know that her first scar came from some kid biting her.

@Mrs. Jacks: I posted about it before but teaching sign language really helped B express himself in ways without biting. Hopefully the bites end soon! Biting is such a frustrating phase.

@littlek: Yeah they have the little biter in M's class on "bite watch" which involves an extra adult shadowing the child all day. But they have to really "nip" this (ha ha) because my kid is getting bitten every. single. day and it makes mama very sad and makes M. think biting might be ok.

@Mrs. Jacks: AHHH! One of the girls in his class, I am very good friends with her mom--so if it was her daughter that gave my son a love bite--I wouldn't be "that" upset, ha!

Having worked in child care and being an educator....all I ask of my child care is that my children are safe, clean, and happy!

@Mrs. Jacks: I've heard biting is very common among besties. B would bite his BFF too. But now he has learned to use his words or sign "help" when he gets into an uncomfortable situation.

M has been bitten every day this week. :( they have been working very hard with the offender and they are on high alert bite watch. It's just really hard because the two kids are besties!

I would only get mad if they hadn't noticed. DD was bit twice in one day, both on the back of her arms, so she couldn't have done it to herself, one was a bruise and the other had SCABS and no one noticed. When I asked what had happened the next morning they were so surprised. I was pretty livid (still am typing about it a year and a half later) but I was about to have DS and didn't see a point in switching daycares for 4 weeks, I knew I wasn't going to return to work.

We have friends, and their little boy bites DS pretty frequently, and it is hard not to yell at the boy, but he's only 2 and doesn't get it either. The mom, my friend, does the best she can, but there is only so much you can do. I just hope DS doesn't become a biter.

@BabyBoecksMom: Ah! That seems excessive. Do you worry about a lack of supervision? My biggest thing is I hate how crowded the room seems--they used to be under state ratio and are now over. They have 3 helpers in the room, but it's still a lot of kids to watch at that age.

@sorrycharlie: I know, that is exactly what I was thinking about--I can't control what they do or don't do. The kid has 14 teeth, I'm surprised he hasn't chomped down on someone yet!

I would feel sad for my LO but I wouldn't be mad at all. It happens. As a parent of a biter, believe me, I would feel horrid if my child bit another child that hard. And he has. But at the same time, why do I feel guilt? It's really not the parent's fault that their child is a biter and I am very positive the parents don't encourage that. Who is there to be mad at? The child who doesn't know any better? The daycare worker in charge of a whole classroom of toddlers?

No, I wouldn't be mad. It is just an unfortunate accident that happens

I'm sorry your LO still has a mark :(

@matador84: I'm not sure what you would say and what difference you would expect it to make. Biting at this age is common. I know you may be upset, but how would you feel if it was your child that did the biting?

oh no!!! Poor G! I would feel so sad for my LO but I would also try to remember that if LO bit another kid, I would feel just as awful. It's so hard at that age because you can't be like, "now, when you go to school, don't bite!"..they totally just don't get it :(

I'm so sorry :-( DD has been bitten 4 times in 3 months, and one of those left a scar. It's really hard at this age, but I still get mad when it happens because I hate seeing my girl hurt. I would have expected the teachers to tell you in person instead of just letting you read it.

Daycare takes good care of DS, but when I got in the car and saw the incident note he had been bitten my heart sank. I looked at his arm when we got out of the car and it was purple and the teeth marks are visible.

I'm upset about it, but at the same time he is in a room with 12-18 months olds and they don't know better...right?? Would you be mad? I'm not going to say anything, but if it were to happen again, I probably would.
