LO had hives this weekend and we were just at the doctor for this issue!! If your LO had cold symptoms, the hives might be in response to a virus. If they start and go away quickly (like, stay less than 1 day) they are more likely to be a reaction to something like a food item the LO is allergic to; whereas if the hives persist or come and go; it's more likely a response to a virus. Some causes of hives are just unknown, unfortunately. Pedi said if the hives persist you can give a half dose of childrens zyrtec or clairitin; but suggested we stay away from benadryl. This all was info from both the emergency weekend clinic and our pedi (they gave the same info/recommendation)

My DS just got hives today! He is just finishing a round of antibiotics because of an ear infection and has had hives 3 times today... The Dr thought it might be an allergy to the amoxicillin but it seems to correspond more with when he has taken naps. No clue what it is and it is freaking me out a little! Did you ever figure out what caused your son's hives?

I got hives as a kid and they decided it was something I ate. Happened as an adult and it was a new medicine I was taking. Do they appear on their own or are they little welts that only pop up where he scratches?

Did the pediatrician rule out roseola? It doesn't really sound like roseola but not sure what else this could be. Poor thing!

So Thanksgiving weekend DS had a rash all over his legs, a bit on his torso, and on his face. It was pretty even on both legs, so the pediatrician was comfortable ruling out some kind of infection. The rash was red, hot to the touch, splotchy, and raised. It went away except on his face. It seemed to change a bit and for about 2 days the skin around his eyes was red (but his eyes were fine). It doesn't seem to itch or bother him really.
He had a fever on and off then about 9 days after the intitial symptoms had an ear infection diagnosed. He's been to the dr's twice now, plus I have talked to the dr and shown him pictures.

Sunday a rash like the one he initially had (red, raised, hot to the touch) came back on his legs and face.

I showed the picture to his doctor at my appointment (we have a family doctor) and he said it looks like hives. No fever this time, but some lingering cold symptoms.

I can't figure out what DS would have been exposed to that is both at my parents house 4 hours away and also at my in-laws' house that DS hasn't been exposed to before this. He hasn't had any new foods. We haven't changed detergents.

Did your LO ever get hives? Did you figure out what caused it, and if so how?
