@magnoliamama42: We cut back on the nose frida since we started seeing the blood. Before when it was just a runny nose (and if I was home), I like to do it before every bottle, but since DH and MIL are home and they don't like to do it often (they do it maybe once or twice a day). Since we saw blood, we did it once. Last night, I couldn't use the nose frida at all. Even though, I could tell he couldn't finish his bottle because he was plugged up.

The oogiebear is used mostly on the nostril that is not bleeding. We aren't sure what to do with the bloody nostril. I think we wipe (well, I like to use the saline wipe). DH and MIL might use a tissue, burp cloth or anything else around.

Oh, using the nose frida, I might be on the nasal opening but only because he HATES it and we have to pin his arms down. I guess with the babies getting RSV in January and DD being in the PICU for 5 days. I learned the importance of getting that mucous out. Especially since they usually eat better if we use it before their bottle.

Yeah, I told the DH to use aquaphor.

@bluestriped bee: I would completely stop with the oogiebear, at least for a few days. Rely on the saline spray and the snot sucker to loosen and suck up dried snot.

Since it's bleeding, take a look at how often you're using the Nose Frieda, too. If you do it too much, you can inflame his nasal passages, and make those blood vessels and that thin tissue of the nasal wall more susceptible to damage. Be sure, when you use it, that you're not pressing it against his nasal wall.

And I know you're going to start trying it and everyone's already said it - we used Aquaphor *a lot* when LO had her last cold. Like, almost every other time I'd wipe her nose (or 3rd time - she had a pretty runny nose!), I'd dab a tiny amount on there. It sucks, because I ended up getting it on my shirts, her clothes, her blankets, etc (she was rubbing her nose on everything). But it's worth it. Also, when you put him to bed, slather it on under there so that it can really be moisturized and heal overnight.

Lots of time in a steamy bathroom before bed can make breathing more comfortable for him, too.

I hope he's feeling better soon!

@Ms. RV: Just regular tissues. Although, I think I have some at work when I was sick. I'll bring them home. Yeah, I thought saline wipes (boogie wipes) were better than dry tissues. I guess that's why I didn't think of using another type of tissue on them.

@regberadaisy: @maddyz: @Rescuemom10: Thanks. Yeah, we thought about using aquaphor yesterday. We didn't think of it sooner. I'll tell DH to use it. Thanks!

Yeah agree with others. Just keep putting aquaphore or something similar on regularly. Will even help loosen and soften anything crusty before trying to rub it off with a saline wipe.

Putting Aquaphor or coconut oil on before you start to unclog will also help loosen things up with out hurting his skin.

I would do aquaphor as well and keep reapply. It provides a protective layer so that it can heal!

@sorrycharlie: Thanks! I'll tell DH and MIL to use aquaphor.

@My Only Sunshine: I might have lanolin. I did just give away most of my nursing supplies away.

@bluestriped bee: Do you still have lanolin from your early nursing days? I use that on DD's nose when she gets raw like that.

Poor thing! I'd still use aquaphor or something similar even if it gets wiped off later. It'll still form a barrier.

DS has had a runny and sometimes stuffed up nose for the past 2 weeks. His nose is raw and some spots bleeding. I feel so bad that I have to nose suction and pick at his nose to unplug it from all the dried snot. Oh, I think it might be an ear infection since he has had the gunky eyes like DD had when she was diagnosed with an ear infection. We did call the pediatrician about two weeks ago when he first got sick to see if he needed to be seen, but dr just said to watch his temp. He's had a fever twice that was high enough that needed tylenol but he temp has been staying in the 99-100. I think 100.4 is when I would give him tylenol.

We have the humidifier on at night, use saline drops and the nose frida, use saline wipes instead of dry tissues (though, I think when I'm not home DH and MIL uses tissues) and use the oogiebear (nose picker). We thought about using aquaphor on it but it would get wiped away when we wipe his runny nose.

I know for us adults, we would just not pick at it to get it to heal but his nose get's so plugged up that he might have trouble breathing.

It is getting bad that we are taking him to the doctor today. See if there is anything else we can do or give him.

Just wondering if there is anything else I should do or should have done.

He is 9 months.

ETA: His nose just started bleeding a bit this past weekend. It is now two bleeding spots. It's just one nostril but it looks horrible and he screams and cries when I go anywhere near his nose. :(
