I think we have this one - http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=23328276&cp=2255956.2273442.4213325.4083736.2929185&parentPage=family

It seemed to be middle of the road price-wise, and I didn't like the ones that had the vinyl covers. They seemed like they'd be loud for baby to sleep on.

@Truth Bombs: Thanks for the input. I was planning to check it against my friends who just bought a new one and see how the firmness was. DD was a peanut (18lbs at 14 mos when we flipped it) so I was hoping she hadnt dented it much! ;)

The new one we bought is not dual sided.

@Truth Bombs: a ha! Good rule of thumb- flip when pillow is added to the crib.

@Mrs D: I'm so glad you like the Sealy mattress! I figured we wouldn't need to spend an arm & a leg for a decent mattress.

@Mrs D: just FYI I would switch and give the baby the new one. It's not recommended to reuse mattresses because after a toddler has slept on it for a couple years it's not as firm for a newborn and can increase the SIDs risk.

We didn't have a dual sided one for our toddler, but I did buy one for the new baby. I plan to switch it whenever I get comfortable giving him a blanket and a pillow. Probably around 18 months? Ours is Colgate but I think it was closer to $200

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: We have the sealy you mentioned I think. I could tell a difference in the different sides - but not a huge one. We flipped it with K when she was about 14 mos because I forgot to do it sooner! ;)

There are some great reviewed mattresses on Amazon in the $100 and under category. I just got K one for her toddler bed that was $60 and it seems very nice quality. We are leaving the Sealy dual sided in the crib for the new one...

Mine is not dual side, both sides are very firm, and I wish it had a softer side because my toddler prefers that. We layer a soft blanket under the mattress pad instead, but just commenting to say it actually is a good idea!

We have one. Slight difference and switched around a year. Might have been a little later cause I forgot about it.

I have one. The toddler side is a bit softer. H likes it just fine. We flipped it when she turned one. I also prefers a lighter mattress because changing the sheets is awkward and I'd rather not wrestle with anything heavier than I have to when it's awkward.

I'm looking into a dual side crib mattress. One side is firm for baby and one side is softer for toddler. I'm guessing after a year or so you just flip the mattress over until baby is ready to move out of the convertible crib and into a real toddler bed or larger bed?

Questions for parents that bought one of these...

1) could you tell a difference between the sides?

2) when did you flip the mattress?

3) any recommendations for a sturdy/ heavier dual mattress? I put the Sealy one Lucie's List recommends on my gear list, but am open to other suggestions. Budget max $150

TIA
