I went to my OB on my due date and had not progressed much...they had stripped my membranes the week before and stripped them again on my due date. Because my baby was looking like she was getting big and I am pretty petite he insisted on making a plan - he scheduled an induction a week past my due date so that if she didn't come out on her own we would force her out before she got too big :). I ended up going into labor on my own 2 days past my due date but baby girl was already too big and after 13 hours of labor I ended up with an unplanned c-section.

Talk to your doctor about a plan on what to do as your due date approaches...my doctor was great in working with me (he wanted to induce 2 days past my duesate but agreed to a week when I said I wanted to give the baby a bit longer to try to come out on her own)

My friend's baby was 1 week late and she and her doctor decided to induce (with pitocin) instead of c-section. Not sure how you feel about inducing labor but is that an option for you?

It does depend on your doctor and their feelings towards c-sections in general. If this is your first baby I've heard its actually quite common for the baby to come a few days late, the due date is just an estimate afterall.

I think it really depends on your doctor and the baby. I know some doctors here will do a social induction for cases like this, or for military personnel, etc. You'd have to talk to your doctor.

While I'd be too terrified of a c-section, if you think it would be benificial to you, talk to your doctor! You could always go into labour before you have it done, or could ask to be induced instead.

Is it horrible to consider getting scheduled for a c-section on or near (past) your due date if you haven't gone into labor yet? I never thought, in a million years, that I would ever ask that question but....

We have plans set up for my maternity leave and for my Mom to come sit for a month after I go back to work. If BGH (baby girl H) comes on time, this will all work out. If she is two weeks late, we lose Mom for about 2 weeks of that precious early time when she will have to be in daycare.

Did anyone else consider planning a c-section if you didn't go into labor on your due date? Do doctors allow that? In my case, the only way I would consider it would be if the baby was ready to come out but my body wasn't ready to go into labor yet.
