Considering it your due week is fine but I do think if they want to induce you early or do anything like that and they are waiting for you to reach a certain maturity in your pregnancy I would see if you can get them to hold off a few days and let baby grow more if its safe. Hopefully you won't have to deal with any of this but I understand your concern and your wanting to avoid NICU.

I go by my own date because I followed my cycle so closely and I know my body.

so i basically knew exactly when i ovulated (i had an iui) and based my due date off of that, but my ob used lmp. our dates were only 1 day off but if i used the due date based off when i ovulated it was the same day as my son's 2nd birthday which sounded neat. so when people asked i said my date but when i saw the dr and they would say how far along i was based on their due date i just nodded and said yup. or if i ever had to call the nurse line i would always say how far i was according to them.

@BandDmommy: yeah my doc said she wants me to get to 36. She said at our hospital it's case by case when baby is born pre term -- if the baby has no issues he doesn't need to go to the nicu! According to her I'm 34 today so just need to make it 2 more weeks. I am probably worrying for nothing over this anyways.

@winniebee: I'd bring it up next dr appt. for reference, I got pulled off progesterone starting 36 weeks. So, I don't know how much they worry about what happens at 36 weeks.

For 3 days I would tell myself not to sweat it, but honestly it would bother me because I like things to be just right. EDD is just an estimation either way, but you know when that egg emerged!

@winniebee: If your baby is born early and is having complications, I would point out the disparity in dates, otherwise, not a big deal. When my son was born, even though he was 35.4 weeks, he was fine, so he didn't require a NICU stay.

Oh I know 3 days is not a big deal but I guess I'm now thinking in terms of a pre-37 wk delivery and how the dates impact things.

Mine was off by the same number of days, but my doc said they went by LMP unless there was a week or more disparity, so I just went with their date.

Three days isn't a big deal. Many OBs go by LMP (mine does too). I would go by their date. That's what I'm doing for my pregnancy (our dates are 2 days off). Also remember that there is definitely error in ultrasound measurements (for dating, etc).

I would just go by my dr's date to make things consistent.. I was like you and sure of my due date based on my charting and stuff but it ended up being off from the dr's calculation by 2-3 days. I guess bc of the time for implantation? Who knows. In the end, with both kids I delivered at 38w2d.

Anyway, you're in the home stretch!! :) congrats

I just go by their date as far as most doctor stuff goes because it is such a hassle to get them to change, but by my date when saying what my DD is. I also had my son early, 35w4d, so the few extra days made a difference.

I don't think the difference of 3 days is that big of a deal. I know my midwives only change the EDD from LMP if the dating ultrasound is more than 5 days from the LMP date. Sounds like your OB is going to go with the LMP. If it makes you more comfortable to use the other date when telling people your due date, then do that. Especially if you have been using that date all along.

So, all along I have known (based on conception and tracking ovulation) that my due date is 12/21. My early ultrasounds confirmed this date. But my OB's office that I switched mid-pregnancy (b/c we moved) to has my due date as 12/18 based on LMP.

I guess it doesn't really matter in the end because the baby will come when he comes. The only thing is I am at risk for preterm labor and do have contractions so today my doc was like, "great you are 34 weeks!" and in my head I'm thinking, no not yet. Also, the baby is measuring small so I'm being followed closely and I feel like their percentiles are always off because based on a different gestational age than he really is.

Would you start going by their due date? Or take the who cares approach? My last pregnancy my LMP and real due date lined up so I didn't have this issue.
