If it makes you feel any better, I have a 16 month old who just hit 20 pounds. He drinks about 12-16 ounces of milk each day and he's hit or miss with eating mostly because he's constantly teething. I chose glass bowl, but as he's getting older, he can polish off a carton of raspberries on his own if he's in the mood.

@DesertDreams88: I think that larger container is the Easy Lunch box container.

For reference, that is the container we use for my kindergarteners lunch. But its also hard to go off of just by size because you can really pack it full, or leave it kinda empty/ not full to the top.

I think around that age, my kids would eat about 4 quarter cup servings of a few little things. I think a 1/4 cups is about the size of the smallest container in the 3 bin case.

My dd can eat a ton! she has been known to eat more than DH at times. Portion size really depends on the meal type... and how much she likes it.

Glass. At that age I'd do about a quarter cup of three things or four things . So a quarter cup each of diced chicken, strawberries, sweet potatoes, and broccoli or a quarter cup each of beans, shredded cheese, blueberries, and a few crackers...

More often the glass bowl. But both my kids eat a little here, a little there.. sort of like their mother. I need to pay more attention to the guidelines but what I actually do right now is pay more attention to the proportion of fruits, veggies, etc., in relation to what they are eating for the day, if that makes sense, rather than the number of ounces of meat, veggies, etc. I don't really measure it but I look at whether meals have been carb heavy or fruit heavy or whatever and adjust throughout the day accordingly.

I would say don't worry about how much your child eats, each baby is different! My DD is almost 15 months (21 lbs) and doesn't eat a ton of food. We just let her eat what she wants and when she's done, she's done. Kids need to be allowed to eat intuitively and not be force fed, it's how they end up obese. We taught our daughter the sign language for "all done" and it is so useful as she just signs to let us know she's done. Try it!

Depends on what it is. He'd eat a whole pint of blueberries if I let him. In the plastic container he'd eat a portion of fruit to fill the bottom of the large section, then a portion of meat to fit in a small section and a portion of grains or veggies to fill the second small section.
Typically I send to school for breakfast: A muffin and a container of yogurt. (or something of a similar size)
For lunch might be: a container of black beans (1/3 of a cup?), 5 strips of chicken, a container of strawberries and a container of cooked, cubed squash.
Then for snack: cheese and 3 crackers and a banana

He eats all of that at school. Then his dinner is a little smaller I think. He eats some of whatever we are eating.

ETA your guy is a good size and sounds like he is eating plenty. I wouldn't worry at all!

DS eats as much as would fill the glass bowl about 2/3rds full. We just feed him until he signs all done (sometimes it takes a long time! If we are rushing him, he eats a lot less) Tonight he ate an entire avocado, maybe 2 tbsp of ground pork and 2/3rds cup of homemade mac and cheese. He's 14.5 months, 32.75 in and 25 lbs.

The Brits have a handy little mental guide called "5-5-3-2." Basically, its 5 servings of grains, 5 servings of fruit/veg, 3 servings of dairy, and 2 servings of protein a day. They give suggestions on what portions should look like in a leaflet (PDF is in link) and its super helpful to see how small actual portions are. I feel like DS1 basically lived on air for months 12-18 and growth slowed WAY down, but something clicked around 16 months for him and he began to be a way better eater, so I wouldn't worry too much as long as you're offering the right stuff!

Of these options, I'd use the plastic container, but DD would realistically eat the amount that would fit into the glass bowl. We typically offer several different things and she eats some of each, maybe all of one but not everything.

I normally server her dinner on a regular ceramic salad plate.

@DesertDreams88: both ofthose look big to me
At 12 months DD wasnt eating that much. especially not in one sitting. I guess every child is different. we had the little munchkin bowls and she would eat a small portion of that. so she still had one bottle a day for a while

I'm concerned LO might not be eating enough. He is ~23 lbs, 1 year old (today!) He learned how to walk about 2 weeks ago. He was STTN for most of Nov/Dec but that was ruined by a 10-day xmas trip when we all had to sleep in a cold, cold room together. Now he wakes 1-3x a night and sometimes needs milk, sometimes doesn't. During the day he drinks about 20oz of milk and eats 3 meals and a small snack. He's not a huge fan of eating and we always feed him until he literally pushes the spoon away or starts throwing finger food.

I read the recent thread about 12-18m meals, and I was researching the recommended food guidelines for ages 1-2 years and I was just so surprised by how much food was suggested! There was all sorts of measurements, but I'm a visual person. If you were preparing a "meal" for your LO ages 12-18m, which container would you use - the glass bowl or plastic container? I included a 4oz pouch as a size reference.

I know this is a really limited-scope question but indulge me as a FTM :)
