About two months ago I went red violet (I'm brunette usually) and literally the day before I got my BFP I planned on going back to brunette but decided to put it off for a week. So, I never did, but if I was going to I would do foils, make sure the area was ventilated, and also discuss a less toxic option for color with my stylist (she offered me one). My colorist said the desired color may not take due to pregnancy hormones, and recommends I hold off for that reason. I'm trying to go from natural dark brown to copper though. And you can usually use all-over foils instead of rubbing on scalp.</p> <p>also, i avoided it during the first trimester as well, when baby is most susceptible to harm. My stylist was under the impression that hi-lights weren't bad for pregnant women, because they don't actually saturate your scalp. And my OBGYN didn't really express too much concern about it. No one I talked to that would be in a position to have a knowledgable opinion (i.e., doctors, nurses, etc.) said it was harmful or even something to worry about. I've been coloring my hair like normal. </p>
