Mine started taking a much longer time to register the temp, like beeping for 2 full minutes. So I figured it must be on the way to dying. That was about 13 months after I'd purchased it.

And of course when it was dying I was mid cycle, and didn't want to throw things off with a brand new BBT, so I just got a replacement battery for it at the drug store.

@Shutterbug: I've tried that one before too - "Well, since I'm buying the super massive box of tampons, watch I won't even need them" It has yet to work ;) (But it will one day!!!)

@LindsayInNY: haha see, now I would buy it just to ensure that you'll never use it (I have been known to stock up on tampons for this same reason)

@Shutterbug: I might need to do the same... I temped as usual this morning, woke up and walked around, temped again to see if there was any change. Then ran hot water and temped that! I've lost my mind. FWIW, the hot water didn't do much the first time and then spiked the BBT to 109! So that was kinda a fail. I don't want to buy a new BBT and then not use it after this cycle (being pre-maturely optimistic of course!). Gah!!

@mrs. 64: I wish mine would just do that instead of this "maybe it works, maybe it doesn't" BS.

Mine wasn't beeping the way it normally did and sometimes the display was fading. They are inexpensive enough that it is worth replacing. You can replace the battery instead but I found it cost so much to buy those tiny batteries that I should just replace the whole thing in case it wasn't a battery issue.

Haha totally feels like a 'you know you've been TTC too long when' moment. I ended up replacing it when I got the same exact temp for like 10 days in a row, plus the beep was occasionally sounding like it was dying out. I ended up using the old one and the new one at the same time for a few days like a weirdo in case there was a difference, then I threw out the old one.

Maybe this is a "you know you've been TTC for too long when..." moment?

Has anyone's BBT died? How did you know? I thought it was a while back but my charting was fine. Then the speaker thing went so instead of a loud beep at the end, it makes this dull, sick-sounding beep, lol. Well, now I know my temp should've spiked today or so (did trigger shot Sunday night) and it didn't. Nipples are sore like usual post-O time but I don't know if that could be a side effect of ovidrel? Awesome timing BBT.

So really - those who temp and have replaced their BBT, when did you know you needed to?
