I try and just put things back in their homes instead of leaving them out, with the goal of mostly-clear surfaces. Very few things get to live on the counter. Like, our small toaster, which we use a few times a week, lives in a cabinet. It takes 3 seconds to put it away and then we don't live with an ugly thing that takes up space and leaves crumbs the 99.9% of the time it's not in use. Our toothbrushes live in the bathroom cabinet, we only have soap on the counter. I wipe the kitchen and bathroom counters down a lot, now I use my V7 a lot, and we have an awesome cleaning lady who comes and does a deep clean with her team twice a month. Before I had a cleaning lady (pre-kid) I used to do a deep clean myself every Friday. One thing I started doing recently is trying to do a lot of the de-cluttering while I'm watching the kids, which saves me from getting slammed with it all after baby bedtime. I just started making my 3-year-old pick up all his toys with me (I do most of it, but we try) before dinner. I fold laundry while I'm watching TV at night and then sneak into their rooms while they're sleeping to put it all away so we don't have laundry baskets out, and I try (not always like this by any means) to get the house in order before I go to bed so we don't wake up to insanity, and if we're super busy, I just make sure the kitchen is totally clean. I don't know, I think I was born in the wrong era and prob should have been a 50s housewife on speed. ETA last thing is I recommend buying non-gross cleaning supplies. I've heard/read on wire cutter that Roombas aren't amazing for dog hair. (But, one of the reasons I am head over heels in love with our dog is that he is the un-sheddi-est labrador on earth.) The main reason I don't really want one is the issue I've talked to you about before, how our house is super vertical with a small footprint and again ZERO places to store it on the ground floor. right now the new V7 is upstairs in our big storage room which isn't ideal, I really wish I could keep it in a (non-existent) kitchen pantry or cleaning closet on the ground floor. I use the dyson mostly in kitchen and entryway, or places where the roomba won't reach, for contained messes, and use the roomba to control general dust, lint, etc in the rest of the house. We are strict on no food or shoes outside the designated areas, so it's mostly issues with dust and lint. Def, def glad I didn't spring for the V8 Absolute for an extra $170. It's convenient and I'm able to do stuff that our Shark couldn't get at (carpeted stairs to the basement, car, etc) and I think like pp's say I do reach for it more often because it's so light and easy. But, the battery is incredibly stupid, it runs out so quickly on turbo mode which is the only mode that I want to use, and to me it doesn't feel like it's picking up more/better than our Shark did when it was new. So, I think maybe it's nice as an add-on cleaning tool, but for me doesn't replace the plug in upright completely. We have a cleaning lady who comes twice a month and uses her own vacuum and that's the only reason I'm not planning to replace the Shark as well. I've lived in a lot of houses built in the 19th century and those foot-deep closets are so useless, good for you for updating (and I can't believe no one did prior to you guys !) It'll feel so good to bring the girly home to a finished space :) Are they done yet/almost done? </p>
