We run a honeywell too, with disposable filters. Honestly, we could replace both the honeywell unit and the filters several times over for what some of the fancier humidifiers cost. Some of them are really expensive (and I feel like I would still have to clean or worry about those just as much).
We have been happy with it. And it is dishwasher safe.

@SweetiePie: Yeah, it is a huge pain. I did it for a while but got tired of buying and lugging jugs of water upstairs and now I'm back dealing with orange goo.

@oscarthegoon: yeah, I've heard that. But if we have a humidifier we run every day in two rooms I just don't want to be dealing with distilled water jugs all the time. NYC Apartment = no extra space!

@SweetiePie: @gingerbebe: We have a different model of Honeywell humidifier and I have been very happy with it. Before that we'd been through 3 Crane humidifiers, and I'd never buy one of those again.

For a low rent fix we have gotten the Honeywell units that require a filter. After going through a few of the Crane ones that always get gross and can't be cleaned completely, I decided I'd rather use ones with filters. The filters aren't that expensive, the unit stays clean, and it's cheap. We threw away all the other units and got one for each room.

@bluestriped bee: @Mrs. Lemon-Lime: thanks for weighing in!
We have a dyson tower fan and I finally got a dyson stick vac with Black Friday deals. I've been very very happy with the brand (except for the price, lol). But with the other two items I feel that the price is warranted so I will probably feel the same about the humidifier if i get it.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Same, my husband is a gadget/tech freak and he's been saying we should get it for a while.

We don't have the humidifier but we do have a couple of their refurbished tower fans and they are awesome. Definitely worth it and kid friendly. We have two cheap humidifiers that have to be put on the table so it's out of reach of the twins. They were trying to lift the container where the water goes.

I would suggest going refurbished. We have no problem with the 3 fans we own.

We have a Dyson humidifier and air purifier in LO's room and love it! DH is a gadget freak and really likes all the features and info that the Dyson products provide about the room metrics at any given time.

If you're open to the $$$ of the Dyson, I STRONGLY recommend the Venta Airwasher

We found it via this Sweethome recommendation: http://thesweethome.com/reviews/the-best-humidifier/ and chose it because we hated how gross regular humidifiers get and how often we have to clean them. " Its competitors require multiple cleanings per month, but Venta recommends rinsing this unit every two weeks and thoroughly cleaning it every six months." They admit that it is expensive, but recommend it for people who want to clean the humidifier less frequently which is what we needed.

We have been VERY happy with it! It doesn't release mist like the crane drop did, so I wondered if it was working...but we had a very dry room and can feel the difference when we run it vs. when we don't.

ETA: they reviewed the dyson in that same test group. you can see their review at the bottom of the page.

My husband and I want this so bad but $$$$$! We have been through 2 Crane ones and I just feel like I can never get them clean. We currently have an Air Innovations one ( I think that is the name) that we got from QVC per my sisters recommendations and I really like it so far.

Anyone have the Dyson Humidifier? DH and I really need one and want something easy to clean. But because it's pricey we'd like to hear some real world experiences.
My son has the Crane Cool Mist and I find it highly annoying to clean and refill. (We are in NYC where we have an orange goo film that comes with our water).
