@matador84: yeah I don't so much trust my ear infection hunch since she literally had gunk draining out of her ear when we got to the doctor. :( But now I am much more in tune I hope!

Never say never. Dd and DS have had it happen. I usually bring them in to ped (I can most times spot ear stuff on a hunch with few symptoms), and she'll end up having to rx a stronger antibiotic.

@Foodnerd81: Fingers crossed for you guys! It's hard to know what's going on when they can't tell you.

@SeptMomma12: good to know, thanks (and sorry your guy had to deal with that!) im watching for a fever, but it's tough since she never went over 100 before the first ear infection, just hovered at 99-100 for a few days. I'm going to et the antibiotics run their course and watch it really carefully.

Actually they can get one in the other ear, even on antibiotics  Or at least my guy did. He had an infection in one ear and was on antibiotics for a few days and seemed totally better when he suddenly got a fever. Turned out the original ear was better but the other ear was infected. He needed a stronger antibiotic.

But I would say just tugging/scratching could be teething or congestion. My LO had a sudden high fever that made it pretty obvious.

@BabyBoecksMom: probably teething (aren't they always??). Sort of congested but its actually finally getting better. I texted my pediatrician friend (I'm, best kind of friend to have!) and she said the same thing- the antibiotics will work on it if it is another infection anyway.

@Mamasig: I felt so terrible- poor kid was so upset while we were there!

More ibuprofen in the meantime!

Aww poor baby :-( Is she congested? Teething? Both of those will put a lot of pressure on the ears. If she's already on antibiotics, it should prevent another ear infection forming in the other ear.

I would say the antibiotics would prevent an infection in the other ear. I bet she did have an infection in the other ear. Poor thing!

Also- the ped could hardly look in either ear since she was freaking out so much, so it's possible she had a mild infection in the left that we couldn't see?

If your LO is already on antibiotics for an ear infection in one ear and it seems to be helping, they can't get an ear infection in the other ear, right?

C had a pretty bad ear infection in her right ear- it ruptured right before we got to the doctors on Monday. She's been on antibiotics since Monday and is doing much better- back to STTN!- but now she's been waking up from nap super crabby and has been tugging or scratching her left ear, the healthy one.

Probably just paranoid, right? I just feel so bad that I let the ear infection get so bad before I realized it that now I'm overworried...
