So lo napped until 5:30 yesterday, so I tried 8:00 bedtime and it completely threw her off! She was up at 9:30,11:30,1:15,2:00,3:00 and 3:30! i finally pulled her into bed withh me after the 3:30 waking and she slept this morning until 9, which is way different from her typical 6:30 am wake up. From what I've read frequent wakings is a sign of being overtired. So @mrs.bee I tried your recommendation and we moved to 6:30 tonight. She was up for 3 hours but, has only woken once since going down, so we will see!

4 hours is way too long to be up at 4.5 months. the absolute max she should be up is 2 hours.. moving the bedtime up even 15-20 minutes might make a difference?

I have no flipping clue, clearly!

For what it's worth, my son usually will only sleep 10 hours overnight (with 2 wakes). We have tried early bedtime, later bedtime and basically his natural sleeping pattern seems to be 8:30-6:45 or so. He then takes a long morning nap (2 hours, sometimes 2.5) and then 2-3 dreaded 40 minute naps. The long and the short of it is, I don't know what works. I'm just trying to follow his cues again and work on an 8 p.m. bedtime since it seems to be his preferred sleep time. Maybe over time I can move it to 7:30 or earlier.

I've read differing info on awake times - some books advocate get your baby down within 2 hours of waking others say what @c.sassy said above. I know that during the day 2 hours is the absolute max for T...more like 1.5 hours. I really don't think he could be awake 3 hours and not be incredibly fussy.

Ok, I am certainly not a sleep expert as evidenced by my daughters recent lack of napping, but I just read something that may help. The 90 Minute Sleep Program says that typically the evening awake time (between last nap and bed) lengthens first and that it's normal for it to be 3-4.5 hours long. Your LO is the right age for that to start. If she's getting the recommended sleep over a 24hr period, I don't think it matters too much how long she's sleeping at night... though, I certainly know it matters to you.

For what it's worth, my LO is 4mos and regularly goes to bed at 7:30-8 and wakes at 6:30-7. Granted, she only recently started waking at night, so she's getting pretty solid sleep during those hours.

Ok, so another question from a momma with a lo who is in the crazy 4 month sleep regression! My lo is 4.5 months and I thought that I was finally starting to get her sleep down but alas she's thrown me another curve ball. So, she has been consistently waking up between 6:30-6:45am. yesterday was a pretty typical day and she napped at 7:30 until 9:00 then from 11:15 til almost 1 then from 2:45-3:55. So at that point I figured an early bedtime around 6 was best. We started her bedtime routine around 5:15 and she was asleep without a problem at around 6:10. But then she woke up 15 minutes later and fought me to go back down. I got her back down and she woke up 10 minutes later, this time fought me a ton trying to get her back down. I finally stopped trying to get her to go to sleep after trying for 45 minutes and she came downstairs with me to finish dinner. She was super pleasant until around 7:45 then got fussy. I took her back to her crib and she was asleep by 8 and stayed asleep. So this has kind of been the norm, that I try to put her down early and she doesn't fall asleep until 8-8:30. I know this is kind of late especially when her last nap ends between 4-4:30. Plus she always wakes up at 6:30-6:45 am, so it doesnt seem long enoughnto me when she goes to bed closer to 8:30, and has 1-2 nighttime wake-ups. So I guess my question is should I just let her add in another nap and then make bedtime closer to 8? Any advice bees?
