I had our First Trimester Screening 2 weeks ago...now I just am trying to figure out the best way to find out the gender without waiting until my 20 week anatomy scan... :)

I wouldn't do it JUST for the sex, but I would absolutely do it for genetic screening reasons.

I did Panorama and found out the gender at 13.5 weeks ($25). We chose to do that for the genetic screening info though. Getting the learn the gender early was just a nice bonus!

I had elective scans with both boys around 17-18 weeks. I could hardly wait that long. They were about $100 each. We plan to get genetic testing with future babies because of some genetic issues.

I had Panorama testing done at 10w(?)
The had to request it because I am under 35. Insurance covered it all!

@Mrs D: Panorama at 9 weeks. It's the earliest they can test you and I happened to have an appointment that day anyway so we did it!

I had a scheduled U/S at 16w4d (to follow up on a SCH), and they were able to tell me then, but I would have waited until 21 weeks otherwise.

But my insurance wouldn't cover the early genetic testing because I'm not high risk for any genetic disorders, and I'm not 35+. I totally would have otherwise!

I had an elective u/s around 16 weeks. I think it was $75? They were able to tell the sex really easily - not sure if the fact that he is a boy helped, though!

With DS I had an elective scan at 16 weeks and with this pregnancy we did it at 15 weeks. It was at Baby Envision and around $80 I think. My doc didn't offer the Panorama or Maternit21 (which is the test their office uses) because I was under 35. If I had the option I probably would of done the genetic test instead of the scan since you find out more information.

I did MaterniT21 around 12 weeks with both LOs. My first pregnancy ended in m/c due to a chromosomal abnormality, so we did the test for peace of mind. My insurance didn't cover it, but we only had to pay $200 (the original bill was something like $2700).

My Dr office has offered me Panorama for $100...so I am basically trying to decide between that (certain) at 14w, and waiting til 15-16w for an u/s. UGH! I need to know now!!!!!

Basic genetic testing (100 percent covered by my insurance) revealed the gender around 12 weeks, which was one more reason we chose to do it. It was definitely fun to know so early, but we would not have paid for the early gender test separately had insurance not covered it & it did not include some sort of genetic screening.

Re: genetic testing, we will probably not do this again for future children ... it added a bunch of unnecessary stress when one of us was revealed as a carrier, then required us to do additional testing (which insurance did not totally cover) for peace of mind. It's good to have answers now, but the high cost was NOT FUN!

I paid for an elective ultrasound at 16 weeks. I think it was $80. It took 20 minutes before the baby would uncross her legs and show us. She only uncrossed them for a moment, but the tech grabbed a photo and the 3 lines were obvious. We were almost to the point of having to reschedule. I had it confirmed at my anatomy scan and again at every scan since.

Did you find out the gender before the 20 week anatomy scan?

If so...did you pay for a genetic blood test? Pay for an elective u/s?

If you did the u/s - how many weeks did you do it at and how much did you pay? Were they able to tell the gender on the first try?
