Both my kids were terrible nappers until about 18 months. We kept with the naps and my DD still naps now just shy of 4.

@Dahlia: That's what we've been doing. She doesn't have to sleep, but she does have to stay in her crib for at least 45 minutes. If she's freaking out, I get her out earlier, but if she's just fussing and whining and banging on the crib, I leave her in. If she quietly plays, I leave her in for an hour or so.

@Portboston: Yeah, my kid has never liked napping and has never been easy to put down. She has days where she doesn't nap at all, days where she naps for about an hour, and every once in a while, usually after a week of minimal napping, she'll nap for 1.5-2 hours. On no nap days, I still put her in her crib around nap time, when she starts to seem tired. She has a gloworm, and a couple other stuffed animals in her crib. Some days she'll just play in there for 45 minutes until I go get her, other days she screams. I don't get it. She doesn't seem ready. And I'm definitely not ready.

@Portboston: @LindsayLou: Solidarity, mamas. DD is also 18 months and has long been a crappy napper. The last two weeks she's napped <40 minutes a day at daycare. Today at home she fought hard, but when we finally got her down she slept for 2 hours. I'm going to just keep insisting she at least have quiet time in her crib every day and hope she comes back around to regularly taking good naps.

My son dropped his nap at 25 months. He was always difficult to get down even though he often took a two hour nap. He had already been transitioned to a twin bed and was able to get out of bed. He would scream for an hour and we gave up. Bedtime moved from 10 to 8, which was a very nice improvement.

My son stopped napping in his crib around 2.5. I tried so hard to get him to continue napping there but nothing's worked. He's not physically ready to drop it completely, though. So a few times a week we go for a drive and it's a virtual guarantee that he'll nap in the car. Not ideal but I don't mind too much because I have the time to do it and the alternative of a crazy kid is not appealing to me. He's now 2y9m.

My daughter dropped her nap a little after turning 2. It was such a relief to no longer have to fight for over an hour daily to get her to go down. She also started going to sleep super easily at night so that was no longer a fight. win/win.

@portboston My daughter fought her naps at 18 mos and I was fearful we were done with them. I just tried to stay consistent and still put her down whether she fell asleep or not. She's now 2yrs and 8 mos and still naps. It seems she just goes through phases where it's just not going to happen and then days like this week when she napped 2+ hours. Good luck!

DD (nearly 18 months) naps about 40 minutes on the weekends. 40 minutes total. Not each nap or even each day :bummed: It sucks because she naps a two hour nap each day at daycare. No advice... just commiseration!

My 2.5 year old totally wants to drop his nap. I'm dreading it... He fights us so hard now and I know it's coming. He's never been a good napper and dropped his second nap right at a year. No advice just commiserating.

@LindsayLou: we can commiserate together 😭😭 my 18 month old has such a hard time getting to sleep no matter what time I put him down. And if he sleeps more then an hour, that's a lucky day. I'm not ready!!!

Following. My 17 month old seems to be trying to drop her last nap. She's never been a great napper, and never had two consistent naps, so I'm not surprised.

Those of you who have/had crappy nappers, when did they officially drop their one nap? And by crappy I mean difficulty falling asleep, sleeping about an hour or less (for one nap) or any of version of crappy (feel free to explain!) Multiple votes for multiple crappy nappers (bless you!)
