I had back and butt pain really early on, it was strange to me because I thought you only got back pain in the 3rd trimester... I still have it some days, so my husband gives me a gentle back rub once in a while, he does this while I'm lying on my side on sitting up. It slightly eases the ache, as does a nice warm/hot shower

I had horrible back pain from weeks 14-16, but it eventually got better and went away. On thing that really helped was adjusting my chair at work and making sure I was sitting in a position that didn't add strain to my back.

I'm now nearing 28 weeks and haven't had too many issues with an achey back since, but am worried it could hit over the next two weeks. I think in the beginning (at least for me) a lot of it had to do with everything growing and getting stretched out.

@JBhops - the heating pad isn't helping. I feel like I have these little knots that i just.need.to.work.out. My husband worked on my back the other night. Felt good. But can I cash in on that every night?? : )

@jbhops: Ya said something like it can last up to 5-6 years. I definitely don't want to have those bills for years. During pregnancy is good enough ;)

I'm a huge advocate for the chiro and I find it makes a big difference. I get bad lower back pain especially if I've been on my feet or walking for too long. I find monthly chiro visits definetely help a great deal. She also adjusts my ligaments (in front) to help with some of the RLP I've been having. I swear by it and recomment it to all my prego friends too. She specializes in pregnancies, and even the RMT in their office specializes in pre-natal massages that really help.

@jbhops: I talked to my doc about a chiro and he said not to go there. Because it meant I would probably have to continue on after birth. Following doctors orders ;)

@winniebee: I have some back pain and just use the heating pad when I need it. I haven't had bad lumps show up or anything, thankfully. Have you tried that?

@blushink: a friend of mine is in her 3rd trimester and is seeing a chiropractor. She says it is a huge help but like everything, is just temporary. She has horrible back pain - like yours sounds. maybe try that?

@winniebee: When I was pregnant with my first, my horrible back pain (like I feel now) started at about 6 months. Now, with baby 2 I've been feeling it since day 1. Not fun.

The thing with pregnancy massages is that they can't go fully in depth. Something to do with your body's fluids that would affect the baby. I know I didn't feel like it did me any good and I they wouldn't let me leave until I drank 500 mls of water. Something again with moving stuff around.

Interesting - thanks! I will be in my second trimester next weekend so was considering a massage some time thereafter. So what's the deal though, they can't press hard on your back?

Sounds like your pain is much worse : /

I have back pain in general, but this is different. Definitely pregnancy back pain. It's so painful.

A massage won't really help my situation and until you are done the first trimester it is not recommended to get a massage. Plus I find the pregnancy massages aren't that great. I prefer the regular ones but pregnant... they can't do it.

I saw my doctor today and told me I should see a Physiotherapist or go for acupuncture. He said no Chiro because it could do more pain down the road. So I trust him. Need to call to make an appointment, but hear acupuncture has helped a lot of pregnant ladies with pains.

So I have had some more frequent back aches and pains lately - on my actual spine, it feels bruised and there are some pretty big knots near my shoulder blades - feels bruised to the touch. Wondering if a massage would help or would even be worth it. It's not like it's excruciating, just annoying and uncomfortable. I'm 12 weeks.

Did you get any massages while pregnant? Did it help?
