@BKCaribBaby: I have an early waker too so I'm very interested in this post!
My LO is almost always up by 530 am, which means every is, because we co-bed. So we all get up, go to the bathroom/change diaper, head to the kitchen, and 10 minutes later he's rubbing his eyes because he is so tired! I don't get it! :( On weekends I put him down for a nap with 1.5 hours of being up, but that isn't the case on weekdays.

@BKCaribBaby: @Sammyfab: just playing devils advocate but my DD still isn't awake for 3 hours after waking up in the morning until her first nap and she's 11.5 months old! But I will say that an earlier bedtime might help! DD has a similar routine as what you posted but wakes much later but her bedtime is the same. Some kids are early risers so that early bedtime will make her more rested. Good luck!!

@Sammyfab: Hmm....interesting. I will definitely think about extending the time before the morning nap. We definitely don't go to her before 6am. I just know she's awake in her crib around 5:30 because I usually can't sleep and am awake then (sigh..).

I would definitely considering extending that first wake time before the morning nap. 2 hours is actually a pretty short wake time and napping her too early (as well as not enough total awake time in the day) is only going to perpetuate the early wake up. I also think the fact that she isn't napping long in the morning is a sign that you need to increase that wake time.

At 9 months, my LO was up for 3 hours before his first nap and he had about 9 hours of total awake time during the day. He liked a shorter amount of time before bed though. We also had a few rules we followed to get on a good schedule:

1. We didn't get him out of bed before 6am...ever. That moved to 6:30am around 9 months.

2. We didn't nap him before 9am and 1pm. When we moved the out of bed time to 6:30, first nap was never before 9:30.

3. Early bedtime was our friend!! At that age my LO frequently went to bed between 5:45 and 6:30. That was because he was never a big napper and preferred to sleep more overnight. Your LO sounds like she's the opposite.

Hi, all. I do know that we could be keeping her up a little too long, but if we followed a 2-3-3 or 2-3-4 schedule, I feel like she'd be going to bed at 6pm. ETA: LO is a little over 9 months.

So here's LO's approximate schedule on an early wake up day.

5:30am Wake Up
7:45 am First Nap (Usually lasts at least 1 hour often 1 1/2 hours)

~1:15-1:30 2nd Nap (she usually goes to sleep about 4 hours after she wakes up. Her second nap lasts anywhere from 1.5-2 hours)

6:45-7:20pm bedtime (depending on last nap)

She sleep usually 10-11 hours without a wake up. Lately it's been less than 11 hours, but more than 10.

While not a perfect schedule, it's been working for us (other than the early wake ups, of course). I know the time between her first and second nap could be shorter.

How old is she and how long is she awake before her first nap? If you could post her overall schedule, that would help too!

Oh yeah, and I think it was a sleep regression for us - she what really worked to have her sleep. In more was a natural shift. I tried a lot of stuff too, but nothing worked.

We had this problem with LO around the 3 month mark, and she just recently came out of it at about 5 1/2 months. She had been putting herself to bed really early (like couldn't stay awake past 6 pm, sometimes earlier. When she started to be able to stay up a bit later, I pushed her bedtime back to 7:30 pm and gradually she started waking up later. Now she pretty consistently wakes up at 7-7:30 am.

How soon after waking are you putting her down for a nap? When R was waking up so early we decided to skip with one time for morning nap. It was rough at home some weekends cause she was so tired but she did get with it at day care. She started sleeping longer too once she got use to the 9am nap.

We've been battling early wake ups for most of the past few months. We've tried lots of things, and LO will often not sleep past 5:30am. She is often clearly tired in the morning. For the past few days, she has taken extremely short morning naps totaling a half hour or less. I know that she can't be ready to drop her morning nap yet. Is this just a sleep regression? Luckily her night sleep is still good.

Any insight would be helpful. Thanks.
