@MamaCate: and your LO never scratched her toes in them? I wanted something that will cover her toes since she still crawls up stairs and trips over her own feet sometimes. But those look pretty good if these don't fit.

@Foodnerd81: in case the ones you ordered don't work: I am late to this but I just got water shoes for my 22 mo old today. We got stride rite Everett sandals--they are not the ones that stink, we had a pair last year (12-15 months old) and really like them.

For some reason they are not in Amazon. We got ours at Dillard's. Here is a link:

@gingerbebe: I'm hoping by the time T is 2.5 his feet will flatten out a bit. He measures an xxw, which is so hard to find. I ordered him a 5.5w sneaker to try and it will work, but barely. I guess he does have the fattest feet.

My oldest (2.5) has wide hobbit feet and can only wear wide size sneakers and he can fit into the Old Navy ones but I haven't tried them with our 1 year old. He needs to grow into his swim socks a bit but right now I just have him in socks on the patio.

@Foodnerd81: @gingerbebe: I may have the toddler with the world's fattest feet, but I can't get the Old Navy ones on him. I'm curious if the real ones are roomier. I've been using these Wal-Mart Garanimals brand keen type sandals because I needed something in an emergency. They're actually working well.

@Foodnerd81: D's stay on pretty well. he can get in and out of the kiddie pool and toddle around perfectly. he sometimes loses one but they are a wee big for him. my other two also wear them for water play and they don't have any trouble. as for mulch and gravel, I suspect they may get some in there? Easy enough to take them off and shake them out though. Keens also would get stuff in them at times. Overall I love the ease for water/yard play (not for playground play as they aren't supportive enough in my opinion). different styles of crocs may fit better as well. DD got a regular pair in a 10/11 but they didn't have extra room so I found a pair in a straight 11 that does have room. All that to say I think the combo sizes fit differently.

This year I lurked around Nordstrom/Rack etc.... I ended up getting them from DSW with a code. Not the style I wanted but cheap is key! Target actually has knock off versions that's worth a try. I plan on getting those also.

@catlady: @cheesetomywhine: would regular crocs stay on getting in and out of a kiddie pool? And they aren't really a tripping hazard? What about gravel/ mulch from playgrounds?

@SeptMomma12: those would be pretty perfect, actually, but I don't feel like driving half an hour to toys r us...

For DS's first summer walking we had water shoes like top link @gingerbebe: posted. They seemed fine, but they mostly got used at daycare so I'm not sure if there were any serious drawbacks to them. Last year we had the sneaker version of these and I liked them a lot. I saw these at Kohls and they looked pretty cute/useful - https://www.kohls.com/product/prd-2798733/stride-rite-made-2-play-phibian-toddler-girls-sandals.jsp?color=Turquoise&prdPV=8

I got swim shoes for my baby - they're the closest to a Robeez feeling outside shoe. Mine are Speedo that I got at Goodwill, but they basically look like these:

https://www.amazon.com/play-Baby-Unisex-Swim-Shoes/dp/B004SUGRG4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1495054114&sr=8-2&keywords=baby%2Bswim%2Bshoes&th=1

These are even more soft soled:

We put crocs on LO1 at 16 months (we were stuck on a cruise with a pair of keens that she hated and they were the only toddler shoe that we could buy on board). She loved them and I've bought her a new pair every year since.

Btw, we also had Petras that summer (I wanted something a little more "athletic" than crocs for the playground) and I agree, they are the absolute stinkiest.

Both my girls wore/wear natives pretty early on. I think they're hands down the best water shoes.

@Foodnerd81: They have some at Carters. We also have toddler Tevas (so cute!) and Natives. DS is the same age (size 5 shoe).

Favorite shoes that can get wet (water table, splash pad) for a young toddler who is still getting the hang of walking? G is 17 months and has been walking for a few months now but still trips a far amount, so I want something flexible but that will protect her little toes.

We had some Stride Rite water type shoes for her older sister (Petra, or something, similar to Keens) and they stunk sooo bad by the end of the summer. She also had Native knock offs but they seem a bit stiff for this stage of walking.
