@KayKay: thanks! Yes our friends specifically mentioned the long weekends, and how it's always back to square one the T/Th schedule.

I think 3+ days is better for kids who don't do well transitioning because it gives them more time to get used to it. Is it MWF? I tend not to like the loooong weekend of TTh schedules because it can be really hard for some kids to go back after home for 4 days.

My DD2 however has never had a problem with others watching her so a 1- or 2-day program wasn't really an issue that way.

And I know it seems like a big difference hours-wise, but some kids love the routine of being there for lunch or extra play.

I'd probably go with the extra time, knowing it would be helpful to me and that LO will get used to it either way! But I'm sure it will be a good thing no matter what you choose.

Some background: DS is turning 3 in June. He's never had any care outside the home, just me and DH tag teaming, so he's understandably a bit apprehensive about being dropped off (never lasts in the YMCA childcare, for example). He's just gotten accepted into a great preschool, and we're really excited about it. In addition to helping us come Fall, we're hoping he'll get socialization and get used to being away from us and make some new friends.

Right now, he's going to be going two days a week for 3 hours, but the school just informed us that they have an opening for 3x/wk for 5.5 hours. A couple of our friends have mentioned that their kids adjusted to preschool by going more, not less.

What has your experience been like? Is 2 days a week enough for any benefits? Would it be better to plunge into 3 full days or start with 2 half days and transition? I'm starting nursing school in the Fall while continuing to teach, and I'm just really hoping this transition goes smoothly for all of us.

Thanks!
