I was going to weigh in and say I didn't have any complaints about our Gemini! I put her on my hip then toss her onto my back. I prefer to cross the straps over my chest, though I'm not sure if that's recommended?

@californiadreams: I wrap 90% of the time just because that's my comfort level, but my husband back carries daily in our Tula, and I use it a lot when we're out doing errands. I can get it on myself pretty easily!

I just did the hip-to-back carry yesterday in the Ergo. It was definitely tricky, but I sat on the bed while I did it. I'd love to hear more about the Tula, since I'm thinking about getting one for when she is a toddler.

We have both the Beco and the Tula (and I have used an Ergo). The Tula isn't hard to use but the straps being attached can be a little tricky. For us, we do the piggy back to back carry. I can do it myself. My husband uses a bench or other raised surface to put him into a back carry. I could never do the hip to back carry.

It takes a lot of practice and confidence.

I  Tulas. If you don't like it, they hold their value extremely well so re-selling isn't an issue :)

I have a Tula, though I still carry b on my front. I have put her on my back and was ok doing it on my own. They have a video on the website that shows how to put them in the back carry with some ease. My friend has the Tula toddler and uses the back carry all the time. She loves it, but is still getting used to getting them in the back carry on her own. I just had someone spot me the first time I did it. I'll do that a bunch of times before doing it on my own.

@T.H.O.U.: i find he is starting to grow out of the beco for one thing as the seat is smaller than my mei tai and ergo. And i found the straps annoying compared to the ergo. But then with the ergo, i find the straps annoying for a different reason in that it is harder to adjust them in the back position. I guess you are right, i just have to keep practicing.

Maybe if someone has a tula and an ergo, they can weigh in if the tula is any easier for back carry.

I don't have a Beco so I don't know but why don't you like it for a back carry? All SSC will have a learning curve for getting them on your back.

I was fine with my ergo on the back but I would think the Beco is similar.

I am increasingly having a hard time with LO in front carry because he has picked up the nasty habit of smacking my face! He is fine when we go for a walk outside, but yesterday i went for a quick shopping trip. I didn't want to bother with the stroller and he was smacking my face the whole time i was trying to shop (and it was only 20 minutes!). I ended up giving him my iphone to distract him which goes against how i want to parent. Plus i don't like getting frustrated at him the way I did with his smacking. He only does this behaviour in a front carry and I use the Beco Gemini which I don't like for back carries.

I am very inexperienced with back carries, but after yesterday I decided it is time to invest in the learning curve. However, i want something that is fast and easy. I am not into wrapping, especially for things like quick shopping errands. I also have an Ergo Sport but so far I can only get him on my back with someone else's help. I might give my mei tai a try at a back carry since I am a pro at it with front carries now......but wanted to check if anyone had a recommendation for a SSC carrier that is easy to put a toddler on your back?

I was thinking of investing in a toddler Tula at some point, but I only want to now if it will be really easy to use for my new purpose :)

thanks!
