We're in Northern Virginia and over 1 million ppl lost power around this area. We lost power for almost exactly 12 hours and had our 3 y.o. had to sleep with us b/c the winds, thunder, lighting, and rain scared him. My 12 week old slept through the whole night but I'm tired b/c my 3 y.o. woke up at 4am and didn't go back to sleep for almost 2 hours. He kept trying to climb out of bed and go see his little brother. What a night! There were massive fallen trees. We have two huge pieces of siding on our house dangling right now. We almost always have some kind of damage to our siding during crazy winds. they said last night's winds were up to 80 mph. I can believe that. I've lived through many a typhoons (with winds up to 200 mph) in the Pacific and this storm scared me the most. I had to put up a brave face so my 3 y.o. wouldn't get scared. Suppose to have more weather coming in tonight...

we have hurricanes every year, so this wasn't anything in comparison, but it was pretty windy. it seemed like those in western virginia got it worse than us, which is a nice change of pace!

it was absolutely crazy last night, at least down in so. jersey it was (i'm not sure how philly fared, actually) - even after all the hurricanes and nor'easters we've had lately, this is by far the craziest storm i've ever seen

@photojane: so glad you guys are doing well, and i hope your friend is okay!

hey guys, just checking in after that ridiculous storm we had last night

i'm on a barrier island, and we fared pretty well - a lot of water and things blown around, but not enough trees down to cause any sizable problems - minor flooding, nothing too crazy

my parents are in south jersey, and basically their neighborhood looks like a hurricane ripped through - they literally have trees ripped out with the roots still attached and downed wires and transformers along their entire street - and rumor has it that they may not have electric for 3-4 days

hoping everyone is safe, and please remember to be careful and stay hydrated during any clean-up today since it should still be in the high-90s
