We do one at my parents' house with others age 5, 9, and 10. The kids are all old enough to leave the really obvious ones there for my guy. My parents always staggered the start times by age.

Nope, we do one at home that's been a family tradition in DH side. We've done it every year and may ramp up the hiding spots this year. In years past it's been on a ledge, table etx.
FIL used to hide them in lampshades, ceiling fans etc! LOL!

We went to one last year at my brother's house, my son was middle of the pack in terms of age and we steered him off to a corner and he picked up all the eggs in that area. He's really into surprise eggs and he loved opening up the eggs.

We haven't been yet (we were away for easter last year and c was only 7 months, not even crawling really). Not sure if they will do it this year since it was at the library and the children's librarian just left. But there were two age groups, not sure of the breakdown.

@Mamaof2: so smart! I never thought of that and now it seems so obvious! Growing up, I was one of 5 kids. Everyone was allowed to find X number of eggs and once you found your number you had to stop looking. The age range was big enough that the oldest siblings weren't jerks to the baby (my brother is 11 years older than my youngest sister. Taking her eggs is just mean).

We did one last weekend and the age group we were in was 0-2, but there were families there that brought their older kid and let them hunt with the littles. At first I was annoyed, but LO only picked up one egg and was happy with just a few in her basket, so I was happy. And like @blackbird: said, the candy wasn't that good. Not a single piece of chocolate. :(

MIL does one in their yard/house every year on Easter. Used to be one for DH and I (no joke)! Now she does it for DS. We haven't taken him to a large one yet.

I think ours is 2 and under, 3-4, and then 5 and up. I am not worried about it. I think she will love it no matter what. She will love just putting any eggs in her basket.

We do one with family after church at my parents house. The big kids know that the ones that are easier to find are for the little kids and they leave them for them to find.

We went last year and E just sat in a little corner and put the same dozen eggs in her basket over and over. then i dumped them out and she did it again. I sat next to her so nobody came over and blatantly took the dozen eggs she was playing with, plus it kept her from being trampled

PEOPLE, THE CANDY ISN'T EVEN THAT GOOD!

We might try this year (uh!) just for her though, I'll push through to give her the experience! Not sure of the age ranges, they just say the littles go first. Yelp.

We went last year when my daughter was about 18 months and she had a blast. I think at ours, 5 and under were all together. Obviously the big kids got more eggs but the little kids were too young to care so it didn't really matter. My daughter and her friends had a great time. I think these events are what you make of them. We were really happy and excited and that meant our LO was happy and excited.

I'm hosting a playdate/easter egg hunt this year. Our building has a courtyard with a grassy area, so I invited about 6 toddler/parent friends over for some Easter crafts and a toddler egg hunt.

There's really just grass, so they won't really be "hidden", but they are all 20 months or younger, so hopefully that won't matter. I'm just going to do 10 eggs per kid and tell the parents how many each kid gets. The colors are a good idea though--if the colors in the egg packages equal how many kids we have, I may try that instead!

@Adira: what we do for the family egg hunt is that each child gets a color - DS is blue so he has to find all the blue eggs - DD was pink, niece was purple, nephew was green, etc etc

That way one kid doesn't end up with all the eggs and for the older kids you can make them more challenging to find.

We've never done a big official one, but we did one last year with family. It was a disaster. Xander was only 1 and his two cousins were 2 and 8!! The 8 year old just ran around as fast as he could and grabbed EVERYTHING! I was like "What was the point of this?" Luckily the two little kids were too young to really care, but I was kind of annoyed.

Will you/did you go to one? What was the age range?

I really don't understand our town's age range. They do:
0-3
4-5
6-8

The 0-3 range is SO bad. You have babies and you have preschoolers (and then all their ahole parents) going in one group. The poor babies get trampled and the bigger kids pretty much just rule the thing.

I may or may not have called the organizer last year and suggested a smaller range (0-1, 2-3) but she obviously didn't listen.... :)

I'm not sure if we'll go this year. We will go to the one at my parents house on Easter weekend, though.
