@togetherthroughlife: haha! DH and I always stop at Starbucks for ourselves when we look at lights, but I never thought about cocoa for DD since she doesn't like hot drinks. Bringing a room temperature hot chocolate from home in a straw cup is a great idea though! She'd get a kick out of wearing PJs in the car too!

Thanks for all the ideas! 🎄🎅

@erinbaderin: Another similar one with the books is just getting them from the library! :)

Something my daughter has enjoyed before is a big piece of felt shaped like a Christmas tree on the wall, with felt shapes that she can decorate it with like ornaments! :)

Driving around to look at lights is good…a pit stop at Starbucks for a special hot cocoa (or bring some from home!) makes it extra fun! We make it “warm” cocoa instead of hot and put it in a sippy when we do that. We wear PJs too. :)

I'm putting together our family's advent calendar with activities and one thing we usually do is have snowman shaped pancakes for dinner one night.
Also, I will always, always recommend this online visit with Santa: https://outschool.com/classes/small-group-gathering-with-santa-claus-from-the-north-pole-z7uynX94

He is amazing! Like one of those guys where you have to ask, do you really think you're Santa? You provide info about your child over email ahead of time, and he uses that info to act as if he really knows your child. So, for example, he would ask my son, "So DS, how are your pets Jack and Pancetta doing? I hear you've been taking drumming lessons." And it blew my kids' minds. It looks like there's almost no available dates and times, but he usually adds them over December, so keep checking back.

Some things we've done - I bought a bunch of secondhand Christmas books, wrapped them, and we did a book advent calendar - unwrapped one every night and read it before bed.

Paper chains are fun, and you can make a countdown to Christmas with them.

Go to the store and let her pick out something to donate to a toy drive.

@Lahela017: Here's a link for the snow paint, but there's lots of options online: https://theimaginationtree.com/snow-puffy-paint-recipe/

Thanks for the ideas so far!! I don't know why I didn't think of making some ornaments!! I could even get her one of this $10 trees to put in her room to fill up. You got my gears turning now....

I'll have to look into this puffy paint. I haven't heard of that before. It sounds right up her alley.

I'm not super crafty, but I picked up a couple "make your own ornament" kits from Michael's last year and my kids really enjoyed those. They also have small trees in their room and love decorating them.

A few that come to mind:
- make paper snowflakes and decorate your windows or ceiling
- pick a few books she's outgrown and donate them
- read Christmas/winter-themed books
- Holiday/winter crafts like puffy snow paint or make your own ornaments
- Write a letter to Santa together

This is the first year my 4 year old daughter is getting really excited about Christmas and really understanding the season more. I would love to make the month leading up to Christmas more fun by doing some different activities. Any ideas on things we could do together that are more simple? Or simple crafts? So far on my list:

-Baking/Decorating Cookies (definitely not simple, but we do this anyway)
-Decorate Gingerbread houses
-Drive around to look at Christmas lights in our neighborhood
-Watch the classic Christmas TV specials

I also have a sensory bin from previous years with green and red rice. And I already helped her decorate her room a little bit and we have lots of holiday books to read.
