We tried these breakfast cookies for the first time this week: http://www.hellobee.com/2013/01/10/cranberry-oat-breakfast-cookies/
They've been great - husband and both kids like them (I added chocolate chips for a little more sweetness), and they are easy to grab and go. Also very easy to make!

ETA: They aren't crumbly either, so don't make a mess.

My LO loves smoothies, and has them almost every day. Super simple: throw some yogurt, splash of milk and handful of fruit into a blender, blend about 5-10 seconds and pour into a glass.

We also do frozen waffles like you, but sometimes I make muffins. I’ll make ahead a whole batch and freeze a bunch for later breakfasts. LO and I both really love the banana bread (can be made into muffins) from the Civilized Caveman. No added sugar, lots of protein and good fats from almond butter. Taste amazing! http://civilizedcavemancooking.com/recipes/desserts/paleo-banana-bread/

Also, we do egg bakes. It’s super easy and can be made ahead: Sauté up some meat (lean sausage is good, ground turkey, etc.) and whatever veggies I have on hand. Frozen spinach works really well for this too. Put the meat/veggies on the bottom of a pie plate or casserole pan (whatever you have and want to use), and then add about 8 eggs (cracked and whisked up in a separate bowl). I usually add a bit of cheese (maybe ½ c. at most) across the top of the pan, cook for like 25 minutes. It’s easy to just cut and serve, and isn’t too messy.

Your kids probably have more control over themselves than mine, but smoothies are the messiest thing I've ever made! Somehow it ended up mostly in DS's hair. We get into ruts too. Right now we are having luck with:
- French toast with a little cream cheese to "dip" into (I dislike cream cheese and think this is gross, but it keeps them eating so whatever!)
- toast - either avocado spread on top, or a thin later of peanut butter and pieces of banana slices on top
- muffins
- overnight oats (I throw in bananas and sometimes a little maple syrup and that's all)

My kids are in a breakfast food rut but none of us are really morning people so something quick, easy and no mess is a huge plus. We usually do waffles with nothing on them, frozen pancakes with nothing on them (my kids like simple), a piece of fruit, toast, dry cereal. I was thinking maybe smoothies of some sort if I could easily throw the ingredients together. Or something I can make ahead and freeze.

Any ideas of easy breakfast ideas that are kid friendly?
