If you want easy, go for a boxed chocolate (devil's food?) cake mix (sounds lame but they always taste so good!) and you can mix half peanut butter with half chocolate frosting to top it with--it's delicious! Had some at a shower awhile back and I love making it b/c it's simple and delicious and people think it took way more effort than it did.

I make PB choc cupcakes all of the time! Honestly though, if you have an easy chocolate cake recipe, just use that, and make this frosting (or google Martha Stewart's vegan chocolate cupcakes, or Ina Garten's Beatty's Chocolate Cake):

Peanut Butter Frosting:
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup softened butter
about 4 cups icing sugar
milk

Beat together the peanut butter and butter until combined and smooth. Add the icing sugar, a bit at a time, until frosting reaches desired consistency. If you add too much icing sugar, add some milk. If you add too much milk, add more icing sugar.

Super easy, and SO yummy!

@KJfromNJ: If he likes Reese's, here are some recipes: http://www.hersheys.com/reeses/recipes/recipes-category.aspx?category=cakes (I was going to cut/paste links but so many of them sounded good!!)

Ooo those both sound really good thanks @pelikila and @LindsayInNYC. I am kind of set on a cake though. I make cookies/brownies a lot but want a cake so it's different, and I can frost it, decorate it, and put candles in it... since I only really make cakes for birthdays and other treats maybe too often :)

What about brownies with peanut butter frosting? A college roommate use to make them - she basically made brownies from a box and then did some peanut butter mixture (I'd have to ask what exactly, LOL) and spread on top!

Husband's birthday is Saturday. He will be working but we're having dinner with friends Friday. I love easy 13x9 pan cakes, like wacky cake, or better than sex cake (aka poke cake). But he LOVES peanut butter and chocolate! Last year I was working at a cupcake shop and threw him a surprise party so it was easy to get cupcakes, half of which were totally PB/choc just dripping with Reeses :) but not sure what to make this year! Nothing in my arsenal! Anyone have something easy to share?

Did I mention... easy? I have no energy for making anything exciting nowadays! And I like 13x9 so I can easily transport it.
